Personal Narrative: Musical Theater
Throughout our lives we are put through trials and tribulations to make us who we are today. There are many different things that I have been through that I can guarantee no one my age has ever even experienced. This does not make me bitter rather changes my views on how I see life as a whole. Generally speaking, I try not to dwell on the past but rather look ahead to the future and see what lies ahead of me. Something that I enjoy that keeps my mind off of all the negative aspects of life is Musical Theater. I had a wonderful opportunity to audition for the Kristin Chenoweth Broadway Bootcamp back in February 2015. I felt completely unprepared as I walked into this audition with little to none musical background. I walked in the room

As soon as the new year came into existence, I created a list of goals to complete in 2016, all of which I plan to complete with gusto (I love that word, it sounds so silly). One of those goals (#5 on my list actually) is to finally get my hands on a first edition of The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux and stare at it in wonder as if it were a fairy princess riding a unicorn into the sunset. I don't even have to purchase it, just hold it and touch it like it is a priceless treasure (which it is).…

This was second time I listen to a Jazz concert in our school. Our players always keep a high quality of performance. Besides this relaxed type of performance I also used to go to Chopin’s symphony and other different kind of operas. Listen to a concert performed in the school and played by our schoolmates seems to be more joyful and comfortable. Our players might do not have a professional techniques or organized as the technical symphony orchestra. But their enjoyable and love of music are same which can bring our audience into their atmosphere and move our body along with their playing.…

Working with Essential Theater was very productive and I not only continued to learn about managing a stage, but also aspects of stagecraft and the handling of tools. I felt it was not hard for me to adjust to the setup and the functions due to the stage equipment being provided and easy to access. While being a production intern, I was also working with other interns whom assisted me with the props as well as being a team player. The production that was taking place was a two play festival, which features two original stage plays that won a contest and is granted a full production as well as a cash prize. One of the plays was called “Dispossessed”, but I was a part of the run-crew for the play “When Things Are Lost”. My time at the essential theater had me work in basic stagecraft and running a production with a run crew assisting me.…

Attending a Jazz concert was something new to me. The concert that I attended was at the University of Redlands School of Music. The performing band was called Studio Big Band and was under the direction of David Scott. It was held in the Casa Loma Room which was large and had the ability to hold many excited music lovers. It started at 8pm and was about an hour long. Since this was my first jazz concert, I wasn’t sure was to expect. This was a new experience for me and my family. It was very different from the usual rock concerts that I had previously attended. The purpose of this concert was to give a kind of a homecoming…

As somebody who always had trouble fitting in in school, it was really hard to find a place of which I could be a part of. I joined band in middle school, and I enjoyed playing greatly, even if I wasn’t the most talented saxophone player in the program. I wouldn’t say I was passionate about it at the time, but band certainly was a fun and [something] experience, learning to play music with my friends. Through my three years of middle school at Southeast Bulloch, I travelled from second-to-last chair placement in 6th grade to 2nd chair placement in 8th grade. For a lonely, shy middle schooler, it meant a lot to me to have an activity I was good…

A time I wish I had spoke up as a leader was a couple of months ago when a past concert band member wanted to be apart of marching band. This individual had not attended band camp, which is a requirement if you want to be in marching band. The individual had family issues which prevented him from attending. Once school started he went to the first football with us and played the show music during class. I thought there would be an exception due to his circumstances of not being able to attend. Later I found out that leadership and our band director would decide whether or not he would be included in our show. His drill spot had been written, now it was just if he was committed and be able to. I thought he deserved a chance, so I wanted to help him. I figured our band director would too. But at the same time, our…

Broadway is a giant, big and shiny world where everything has meaning, and has a purpose. It is a spectacular combination of singing, dancing, and acting. Broadway is sometimes misinterpreted sometimes as the “ Big Show of the Gays “ and that’s completely correct when you consider the thousands of performers who are doing what makes them the happiest people on earth.…

Ring Ring, we herd the phone and my mom answered, I could not hear what they were talking about but it just so happened to one of they most important phone calls of my life. It was December 10, 2014 that we got the phone call from a band asking me if I was interested in playing with there band at a live concert, first I though I was dreaming and then I realized I was'nt, I could not believe that I had the opportunity to play in a band at a concert at age 12. I had five days to make up my mind of weather or not to play on stage with this bad. I started practicing the songs I was going to perform and they were pretty easy for me but I just had this gut feeling like I was not going to do well. The next day I woke up it was coming so fast, and all I was focused on at the time was practice, practice, practice. This would be a once in a lifetime chance, a decision that would decide my future as a musician, it would decide respect, how people…

Even in one day there is some sort of bitterness that slithers into you like a snake. I would have to say one of the bitterest things that has happened to me was when my grandma passed away back in 2013. That year was one of the worst years of my life, I was miserable for a very long time. I would cry almost every night before bed, I would not be able to sleep very well, and I would be just so depressed. Even to this day I still am sad but I have also learned to accept it. I learned to appreciate the time I have with my family because you never know when the last time you’re going to be able to see them. Another thing that had also happened that year was the person I thought was my best friend, just stopped talking to me out of know where. This has taught me to know who my real friends are and that no matter what you always have yourself.…

I like to do musical theater this involves sing dancing and acting all at the same time. In one song alone you have to stay on your note during the harmonies and remember the lyrics. When you look at it from the dancing aspect you have to keep on beat, make sure to stay in unison with the other performers and remember all the dance movie and the order they come in. The last aspect of musical theater is the acting you have emotion not only on you face but in your voice as well as your dancing. These three elements have to work in tandem in order to put on one good number none the less one outstanding show. The frontal lobe is engaged a lot in musical theater. This is due to the fact that the frontal lobe involves speaking, which is used for…
