Personal Narrative: Moving To A New School
Having moved to ten schools in around ten years have produced many issues in my schooling and personal life. Not only does moving to new schools hinder your ability to make new friends but also your relationships with teachers and administrators. I move a lot due to my parents divorce so adapting is now a trait I have developed.

As senior year made its way around the corner I have finally settled into a school, at the end of 11th grade, and now plan to stay the whole year at Coppell High School. At first I had no friends but I was used to this due to the fact that this was my third high school and each time has been similar. But not only did I have to adapt to a new school but also a new environment entirely! Prior to moving to Texas

Still, the thought of moving and starting over at a new school sent chills down my spine. And to my surprise, that’s exactly what happened. I was so disappointed and angry with the thought of changing everything and leaving all that I had ever known.…

There have been several occasions where I’ve felt my body respond to an emotionally charged situation, but most recently, I would have to say is going back to school. I am a 34 year old, single mother of two. I didn’t graduate from a typical high school due to issues at home but did wind up obtaining my H.S. Diploma from an adult high school. My family does not play much of a role in mine or my children’s lives. My ex was abusive towards me for ten years before I finally had enough and left, taking my kids to a domestic violence shelter until re-gaining my independence, currently providing them with a beautiful home. Although this is typical for many, I am the only person in my family to make an attempt at college and hopefully will be…

One of the major struggles I have had in my life was transitioning to the U.S. educational system. Besides encountering with a new language, I encountered with a new culture regarding school and college and particular. In that sense, it was a process of adaptation to new rules and expectations. More importantly, I had to have a clear notion of what academic and life experience I needed before transitioning, like volunteering or doing internships. Meanwhile, during this time I was also in the process of improving my writing skills to college level. Thanks to all of this I learned to see the path to academia as a series of steps instead of simply seeing it as an abstract goal. This understanding continues to be at the base of how I maneuver through…

The number one thing I hate is moving to new schools. Three different schools, well four different schools including tri-point. All while being in first grade. Second and third grade I don’t really remember. Fourth through sixth grade i went to Wilson junior high in Pekin. I hated it, Wilson is way bigger than ROWVA, two stories high I mean it’s huge! Imagine it; a school just for junior high kids that is bigger than our school. I remember my first day of fourth grade with Mrs. Norris. I was a nervous reck. I could feel my heart pounding faster than lightning, i swear it was going to even shoot out of my chest just like a bolt of lightning. Wilson is split into colored teams, red, yellow, green, and blue. Each color has it’s own hall, the walls…

When I moved to Belgium my parents decided it was a good idea to put me in a school where I didn’t speak the language, which was French. I showed up the first day thinking that everyone would love to be friends with the new girl. It did not go as planned. Everyone seemed to not like me very much and speaking the same language didn’t help. One day I decided to pretty much make them like me. I made up a game called teddy bear tag, and soon, 1 by 1, I got people to play with me. After that I was just like any other Belgium school girl. It was hard to adjust to a new school, and new people, but just being myself eventually got me a friend or two.…
