Personal Narrative: Mississippi State University Pursuing My Bachelor Of Music Education
In one year, I imagine myself beginning yet another exciting day at Mississippi State University pursuing my Bachelor of Music Education. In the early morning, I head to my theory classes. For the next couple of hours, I take my core classes, such as a biology lab. Afterwards, I spend some time studying in my dorm or relaxing on the Drill Field. My roommate finishes his classes, and we meet a few friends for lunch in Starkville. Then, I prepare for an afternoon marching band rehearsal. Shortly following practice, I freshen up and go to a club meeting. Then, I have my required honors class just a floor above our rooms. Finally, I return to my dorm and rest up for another day. I served as a Drum Major for my school's marching band in my senior year of high school. During that time, I worked some of the qualities needed to be a good music director, such as my conducting, my ability to focus for a long time, and how to stay calm in stressful situations. The summer before my sophomore year I picked up the piccolo for marching, and later used in the concert setting. As well as the piccolo, the summer before my senior year I learned how to play the saxophone. These two experiences allowed me to put myself back into the beginner mentality and build myself up. Additionally, I participated in honors bands in which I learned how to comprehend music at an even faster…

I began working at Keeter my first semester at College of the Ozarks. On my first day of work, the supervisor handed me a gleaming gold name tag that not only had my name but the state I came from. I watched as others put their nametags on, and I quickly discovered that most of them read Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. I looked down at my nametag and felt a sense of uniqueness, knowing no one in the room had the state of Virginia. I soon began to realize that my nametag sparked curiosity when the guests saw how far I had traveled. Guest after guest would ask the same question, “How did you end up here?” I answered this question dozens of times within a day. There were days that I would begrudgingly tell the Keeter guests my journey to this College, but never once did I fail to cherish the opportunity I was given.…

My time at the community college was used to focus on building a strong academic foundation, specifically tutoring international students English every week as they tried to maneuver through their lives in the United States. I remember during one particular session, a Chinese exchange student told me that when she first arrived in Seattle, she was in a state of euphoria. However, her inability to communicate fluently with her peers hindered her from adapting to the customs in America. Consequently, it impeded her from making her own place in society. Another individual, who emigrated from Eritrea, confessed she was still unfamiliar with having additional resources at her fingertips. She grew up in an area where advanced technological tools,…

The event that I choose to follow summer fest was a simple and casual visit to the wellness and recreational center, fancy way of saying the gym. Upon my first ever visit to Florida International University I still remember at our freshmen orientation entering the gym and thinking to myself this seems like a place that I will be visiting often during my four year tenure at school. And boy was I right, the facility was clean and professional looking very much like a professional gym would appear, the staff where all kind and ready to assist you if help was ever necessary, something that I truly valued. I was extremely exited to take a spinning class at the FIU gym, I had only ever heard positive reviews and I was looking forward to the experience as well. Personally I am obsessed with fitness so any class, or activity is something that I love to experience which is what drove me to experience the class myself, and did, I love it. When I got out of that class I was sweating so much, I felt like I had gone on a run around the world and it so amazing, the instructor knew exactly what she was doing and had no problem helping you out if you needed it, the music was fun and exiting extremely up tempo. Overall I can only rave about the experience, it was positive and motivational. It has truly inspired me to no matter how stressed I may be I can always go down to the gym and relieve my stress while gaining a benefit as well.…
