Personal Narrative: Judy Garland
It’s a bittersweet moment looking at your grandma for the last time resting peacefully in her coffin, with no worries at all, stress free, like the day we first met. It was August 25, 1939, I was an 18 year old busboy at the Paramount Theatre on Broadway in New York City. That specific night, it was the world premiere of the ‘Wizard of Oz’ and some of the biggest names in Hollywood would be attending that event that evening. Mickey Rooney, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, and the fabulous Judy Garland. Mickey had brought her in as his date, to feed their relationship that was nothing more than a publicity stunt. She was someone he claimed to have loved, but was spotted the next day with some of the hottest star of that era. That’s why I met her broken inside also. Every California star was the same then just …show more content…
Garland stopped me and asked if I could escort her to the nearest private restroom. While we were in route to the third floor, we had the most wonderful conversation. She talked about the Hollywood lifestyle and what her life was like after becoming a household name, everything was great. But it was the conversation on the way back that made both of us open each other’s eyes to one another’s life. Before getting on the elevator, she asked me “why do the good people that come into her life always have to leave so soon?” I never answered that question, in fact, i didn’t say anything. I just gave her a gentle kiss on the cheek, wiped the tears from her eyes, and healed her hand all the way to the ground floor; and finally said “I love you.” Now here we are, forty-seven years later and she gone. All she ever wanted was to know what a normal life was like, and I bowed to give it to her; even if that meant I was to call her honey for the rest of her life. That why, when I look at her at this very moment, I feel as complete as I did when she was by my side, because I know I was able to achieve what she always

My maternal grandmother Shirley Rae Harrington grew up during World War Two. But despite the war, she lived a somewhat normal childhood. When she was young there were very few other children in the area to play with and her younger sister, Sissy, was paralyzed. So she often played by herself in a stream nearby. Her family also owned several horses, chickens, pigs and a billy goat. Surprisingly she didn't get into much trouble as a child, except once when her family was down in our properties Maryland. People were racing speedboats in the creek, so she asked a neighbor who her family knew if she could go. He said yes and took her in his own boat when they got back her parents were fine but Mimi was upset with her. Her first travel experience…

Charles wanted to perform on broadway and asked Amber to go with him. That was six years ago. The mother of the bride was never to be nervous, but I was. Thoughts swirled around my mind that first day I received the invitation. Amber was my gift from God. He, Himself, had put her in my path. I did not know how I felt giving her up. Emmett told me that Amber will always be our blessing, but that it was time to allow someone else a blessing. I caved; as soon as I saw Emmett give Amber away, I knew, I knew that my blessing had been passed to someone else.…

Hola Diana, hope you are enjoying your week, and a happy easter to you too. Yes I saw those videos of the ice bridge collapsing , it must have been amazing to be there hearing all the noises of the ice craking and the thunderous sound of it falling into the lake, you wouldn't want to be in a fishing boat there when that crashed. Not looking forward to this saturday without the 60's show, and it will be sad to loose the people that can't make the sunday slot. I'll post this bit before it crashes again.…

Language has played a big role in making my life successful. As senior year was ending I had a major life changing decision. I was unsure whether to pursue my passion of baseball in California, or to hang up my cleats for the last time on a high note. Although this was not a life or death decision, It was still a decision that was still near and dear to my heart. After going to several people for help and many sleepless nights, I still felt helpless. I finally came to the conclusion after hearing "The Babe" in the movie Sandlot tell Benny Rodriguez, "Everybody gets one chance to do something great. Most people never take the chance, either because they're too scared, or they don't recognize it when it spits on their shoes." that’s when I decide…

I was nervous nonetheless; Palms sweaty, heart racing, and tear-filled eyes was how I met them. As soon as the sun set the band started playing and the people poured in. The whole neighborhood invited themselves and soon enough I was having trouble distinguishing between who was and wasn’t my family. Warmth filled the air with all the stories being told, all the long awaited laughs caressed our ears, and the love that poured out of everyone was enough to last a lifetime. My uncles if they weren’t embarrassing themselves from the lack of dancing skills they had, I could hear them singing their sorrows in tune with the mariachi band in the background. My Aunts filled me in with the town gossip of the last fourteen years, making sure not to leave any secrets out. Smiles painted across our faces, my cousins and I took to the dance floor, skipping around until our feet bore blisters and sweat drenched our clothes. My grandparents told me stories from when they were younger. They shared with me the story of how, despite disagreements from each other’s family, they fell in love and stayed together till this day. My grandfather recalled to me how he had tried numerous times to woo my grandmother with sunflowers just so she would let him walk her home. “She rejected the roses so I brought her the Sun.”, he…

Never in my life had I seen a woman quite as beautiful as her. I woke up on the morning of September 11, 2001 and looked at my wife still sleeping next to me. I took a moment to revel in her beauty, and think about what it would be like to be a father. Irene was eight months pregnant with a little boy. I had no doubts that she would be an outstanding mother, but i doubted myself. I'm a firefighter, I'm never home. What if I wasn't the best dad? So many things rushed my mind, but I pushed them aside and began gathering my things to head to work. It was only 5 o'clock so I was very careful not to wake my sleeping wife. She was exhausted and I knew it, so my intentions were to let her rest. I've never regretted anything more than not waking her on that morning. I walked out my front door without so much as an "I Love You." or a "Goodbye sweetie, have a good day!" I was gone to work, gone to Squad 252 of the FDNY.…
