Personal Narrative: Jenna
Jenna is a talented, resilient, and determined individual. In the time that I have known her, as her school counselor, I have observed her academic and musical talent. From the start of her high school career, Jenna gave priority status to her academics, but additionally was involved in the school community. She is a young woman who entered high school with great potential, and continued to reach and grow throughout her high school career. Due to medical reasons, Jenna experienced a setback during her sophomore year, but Jenna persevered. She is an inspiration for those that have to face any challenges or setbacks in their lives.
High school years are said to be some of the most memorable years in one’s life. Unfortunately, for Jenna some

She sings, and plays multiple musical instruments (bass, viola, violin, and ukulele) and has performed in many auditioned groups, including chamber orchestra, treble choir, jazz band, Spectrum band. Jenna extends her musical talents outside of school through membership in both the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and the Connecticut Youth Symphony Orchestra. She is a member of is actively involved with her church youth group, which meets weekly to perform various acts of community service and an active member of Girl Scouts.
I admire the person Jenna is, she is never swayed by others and prides herself on being an “individual.” It is hard for most students to speak up in class with opinions that may be of the minority and Jenna does this with ease. Because of who she is, the classroom is a better place with her in it. Her higher level thinking often spurs great discussions and helps others think out of the box Through these experiences, Jenna has learned a lot about herself, and her abilities. She now has the confidence to face anything that may come her way. I am truly impressed with Jenna’s ability to maintain focused on her academics despite life’s challenges. It is without hesitation, I enthusiastically recommend Jenna

I have known Melissa Kline for four years, first as a student in my Freshman CP English class and currently in Senior AP English Language and Literature. A favorite memory is my first impression of her. In the midst of a freshman writing assignment, I noticed her consulting a meticulously handwritten notebook of grammar rules. She was using her notes from eighth grade! I remember thinking, Here is a student on whom nothing is wasted, and I was right. Today, Melissa continues to be an outstanding student, consistently organized and prepared. Her observations are well considered and insightful. When asked to work in a group, she assumes a leadership role. This commitment to excellence is reflected by her repeated inclusion on the honor roll,…

One of Destiny’s greatest attributes is her confidence. Everyday, I have phenomenal students walk into my classroom, but Destiny stands out because of her drive and consideration of others. Unfortunately, many people doubt our young people’s character today. However, I wish that those skeptics could spend five minutes with Destiny. They would see a young woman who is respectful, well-spoken, and a young woman that quite simply wants to help people. Throughout Destiny’s high school career she has acted on these attributes through her involvement in SADD, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, while receiving honor roll status. She also has worked part time at a restaurant, while maintaining a 3.17 GPA. Destiny has many strengths, however I think her greatest strength is her maturity. At the beginning of the Leadership class, Destiny was brave enough to share her “stage fright” issues with me. In spite of her fear, she came to class every day and worked at chipping away at that fear of speaking in front of others. By the end of the trimester, it was apparent to the class and myself that Destiny had overcome her fear. When I think of Destiny, the following quote comes to mind. “It’s OK to be scared. Being scared means you’re about to do something really, really brave.” (Mandy Hale)…
