When asked to write about a childhood experience most people think of the time they lost their first tooth when they were 6, or about the time they started school when they were 5, however, I’m going to write about summer. It wasn’t just any summer it was the summer that I went to the lake with my Dad and Papa. I was about 4 and couldn’t be any more excited about what was going to happen…
Growing up can be challenging even with the ideal surroundings. Your teen years are even more puzzling because you seem to be stuck in between being a child and an adult. Throw in not having a father or mother around and life gets difficult. The year 2001 was a difficult year for my family and the nation. My life growing up wasn’t picture perfect, but in one very long month I learned that kindness from those around will help you endure and survive.…
Growing up with my mom things were pretty blunt, DON’T do things you know you have no business doing. My sister Nyla and I were like two peas in a pod, we did everything together and often defended one another so it was fair for my mom to assume that if something bad happened we both were in on it and she would spank us. At the time I thought it was horrible, I look back now at the stories and I laugh.…
The person i chose to interview was my mother, and the topic we chose was how her and my dad met. My parents were born in california, not anywhere out of california or america. It was a nice sunny day where my mom was dying of boredom, so the best thing she thought of was to go outside and explore nature.…
My family of orientation is pretty blended, but stayed the same throughout most of my childhood. My family of orientation consisted of my mother, step father (who I call my dad), my half brother, and half sister. My mother married by step father when I was five years old and he was married to my mom until I was about seventeen years old. I took the Family of origin expressive atmosphere scale test and my score was very high, but that confuses me just a little bit. I feel like my family wasn’t as expressive as I wanted them to be growing up. If they were expressive though, it was only because they were angry at one another. If my siblings and I disagreed with my parents, we would be told we were wrong. My mom, at least, has gotten better at…
My natural response toward conflict resolution is often less than ideal. Strangely enough, I deal with conflict differently in the workplace than I do with my loved ones. With my loved ones, I am highly reactive. I raise my voice, and am very emotionally charged. Often this leads the conflict to grow and escalate. In the workplace, I find myself a highly effective communicator and can dissolve conflict very easily. When dealing with highly emotional people who are often under the influence of alcohol or drugs, I have great abilities to help diffuse potentially bad situations.…
I am sure you find many letters coming across your desk from parents who have taken the opportunity to ‘brag’ about their child. I know mine won’t be the best, but I hope that I do my daughter justice at the end. As most parents do, especially with their first child, they keep a folder of milestones their child has reached throughout their years; a folder filled with report cards, love letters, photos, school projects, etc. When I look back at one of Morgan’s Kindergarten project “All about Me”, I couldn’t agree more with the saying on the front of her book exclaiming, ”There is nobody in the world exactly like me!”. It’s exactly how I feel about Morgan.…
My family environment has influenced me a lot especially when my siblings were born. I am the oldest out of five, so I'm always look up to. I always had to make a good example and never show that I was scared. When my mom and stepdad had to work, I would take care of them until they came back while getting my schoolwork and practicing my instrument done too. I never really had a chance to be a kid, I always had to be a mother to my siblings. I would always wish for more time in the day for myself, Although watching them grow up from when they were small and started school for the first time made up for that loss time. I live up to a quote, "Be the master of your future, not the slave of your problems." My senior year I had to stop being…
Shouts and laughter echo throughout the kitchen as my grandparents recount stories of growing up in Mexico as young adults. Everyone’s eyes light up with animation as family members contribute to the conversation while eating homemade tamales and menudo. At each of my family holiday gatherings, the dinner goes beyond the consumption of a home cooked meal. These family gatherings are very important to me and have contributed to who I am today.…
In the month of May, 2008, the term rock-bottom took on an entirely different meaning for me in my life.…
Growing up in a Christian household my family has always instilled in me that I am in the world, not of the world. This means I live in this world because God as placed me here, but I do not act like unbelievers of the world. When believers and unbelievers see me, they should know that I am Gods child. This relates to Walter in the video because he is betraying hatred to blacks and interracial marriage and using the bible and the law in the wrong context to back him up. My earliest years of remembering color took me a while to realize. I was having a conversation with my mother about it and she answered as early as kindergarten. My family I moved from Oklahoma to Short pump Richmond Virginia where my father pursued is masters. We lived in a neighborhood…
For the most part, I grew up in a single-parent household. I lived with my mother who worked 2 jobs; she worked up to 70 hours per week, not so she and I could live a life that included vacations, new clothes at the drop of a hat, or even the ability to add a bit of padding to the weekly budget, rather to simply provide the items needed such as a home that had electricity and heat, food to eat and clothes to wear. I spent evenings alone at home while my mother went from job A directly to job B, or I met her at job B and spent the evening with her at work. I often did homework at a desk behind the customer counter at a convenience store while customers came and went.…
Before enlisting in the Marines in 1917, he was in a Methodist college in Kansas. From that we see he comes from a religious background. After reading that it made me think that his family is a stricter family and probably "close" in the way that the parents have high expectations for their kids and want them to look good and acceptable to God. Once the war ended his friends had already came back and he came home years later. The hustle and bustle and greetings of the troop's home was over by the time he got back, so he didn't get much attention. He came home to his small hometown in Oklahoma, but didn't feel to welcomed when he got there. Everyone was over the excitement of the war and didn't care to listen to his stories. "Krebs found that to be listened to at all he had to lie, and after he had done this twice he, too, had a reaction against the war and against talking about it. A distaste for everything that had happened to him in the war set in because of the lies he…
When I was younger, we moved around a few times, but by the time I was…
I feel as if I grew up in a pretty normal family, I had two siblings one brother one sister, my parents were together the entire time, and I feel very lucky because some people were brought up in unfavorable situations. My families beliefs I guess you could say are pretty traditional which I'd say has influenced my life in a way. By coming up this way the way I judged whether something was right or wrong I judged based upon my beliefs and by what my parents would consider to be right or wrong. An example of this is when in elementary school I met a lot of people who didn't belief in God the way I did and I also met some people who didn't believe in God at all. This was all very new to me as the people I was usually around believed in God and that's…
