Personal Narrative Essay: A Trip To Mr. Holder's School
After promising to arrive at Mr. Holderman’s office around 2:30, Jerry called his work to tell them he needed to take off for the day.

Around 2:00, o’clock, Jerry entered the office, ready to pay the retainer fee and sign the documents. When they finished, Connie gave him a folder containing copies of the papers and put the folder in the file cabinet. The office door opened, Mr. Holderman entered, after greeting Jerry, he promised, “I’ll do my best.”
Shaking Mr. Holderman’s hand, Jerry said, “Thank you, I know you’ll do your best. What do we do now?”
Motioning for Jerry to follow him, Mr. Holderman entered his office, placing his briefcase on the floor beside the file cabinet, and said, “Jerry sit down, Marlene went to court this

When I leave here I’m going to see Marlene,” Jerry said, anxious to tell her that she was going home.
Leaving, Mr. Holderman’s office, Jerry stopped at the bail bondsman’s office before going to the station. After standing in line to register to see Marlene. Jerry waited until they directed him to a small area enclosed with glass windows a single stool along with a phone on each side. After waiting several minutes, Marlene entered the small room wearing a baggy, orange, jumpsuit. She didn’t look like the woman he loved. With her hair combed, but not styled, as was her custom, with no make-up or jewelry. A look of terror filled her once sparkling eyes, the sight of her, broke his heart. Picking up the phone, she motioned for him to do the same. “Hello,” he said, sitting on the stool. “Hi, Honey, what’re you doing to get me out of this damn place?” She asked and started crying. “I went to court this morning, Mr. Holderman suggested I plead not guilty. Now they’re going to have another

You should know that I would never hurt anyone, let alone murder my mother. Please, help me!” She pleaded.
Even though Jerry was angry with Marlene, still he wanted to help. “I called Richard. He can’t help…”.
Interrupting him, Marlene raised her voice, “Some friend, he is, when you need him, he’s not there!”
Waving his hands, Jerry said, “Calm down and let me tell you why he can’t help us. Richard is not a criminal lawyer, and that’s what we need. His friend, Matthew Holderman is a criminal lawyer. I talked to him and hired him to defend you. I’m meeting with the bail bondsman when I leave here, and you’ll go home with me tonight.”
“Thank you. Thank you. I don’t ever want to go back to this horrible place,” Marlene said, weeping with relief. “The important thing to remember is we’re trying to get these ridiculous charges dropped,” Jerry said and didn’t believe a single word, he spoke. For the next few minutes, Jerry made small talk while Marlene daydreamed about going home. Finally, the announcement came over the PA system, visiting was over, and everyone should leave. Jerry said goodbye, with tears rolling down his cheeks, he watched Marlene going through the iron door knowing she would soon be free, at least for a short

Later, just a couple of minutes before Prep, I sat by the phone rooms, nauseous about how I would break the world-shattering news to Sophie. Ah, my beloved Sophie, we dated last year until she saw Matt Shauman. But I would have won her back with these tickets. Maybe I can say that I was suspended and Max will get them for her, so as not to break her fragile heart. So, plucking up my last piece of courage, I entered a phone cubicle and dialled her boarding house’s number. Brrrr, Brrrr, with numb fingers, they shook like an earthquake, so wedging the phone between my shoulder and ear, my breathing…

As the movie goes on, it becomes more obvious this character’s detachment and isolation from the rest of the world. His first attempt is to get a loan from his father-in-law for a real estate deal. When that deal falls through, there is a shot of Jerry walking back to his car, defeated. The ‘different mission’ took me beyond the task of presenting my client’s position in a legally correct and persuasive manner, to trying to untrack the state’s case in any lawful way that occurred to me, regardless of the…

“If you don’t leave I am going to call the police!” Connie strained to keep her voice level but the fear was slowly rising within her.
