Personal Narrative: Death Of A Dog
I guess i wasn’t ready to let god take him away just yet.
After all he was like my first best friend. I remember how torn i felt that day. It felt as if a piece of me was being ripped away. I still remember all the good memories i had shared with him. i learned that not all good things in life stay, everything comes and goes whether you like it or not.

Looking back I think about how clueless i was. It all adds up how my dog was old and ill i should have known. My six year old self definitely knew what death was i guess i guess i just didn’t want to believe that my dog was slowly dying. It might of just been the fact that i was so broken hearted by the death of my dog that i just now realized that he would have died sooner or later.

Have you ever looked at many animals and saw one and knew that was the one you wanted? That happened to me and my family when we decided to adopt a dog from Douglas Dog Orphans. We went to the orphanage and looked around; there were lots of dogs, all kinds but a special one, named Tucker. His profile said he was a 3 or 4 years old American Bulldog, Lab mix. It said that he was a good dog for a home of any size. He had white fur with a blob of black on one side and 3 more blobs smudged together on the other side. We liked to call him mini cow. He was looking at us like he knew we were the family for him. He was not barking like all the other dogs. We were able to take him into another room and play with just him to make sure we liked…

My family dog is a hairless Chinese Crested named Sid. He is a gray, white, and black dog with no hair except on his head, paws, and the tip of his tail. We rescued Sid 8 years ago from Detroit, Michigan. His owners left him outside in the freezing cold when they moved away. They abandoned him. Adopting Sid changed my life forever. By caring for him, I have learned loyalty, responsibility, love, compassion, and patience. These are traits I see and feel within him as well. I believe animals mirror God’s hope and love for us. For example, God wants us to forgive others who have done us harm. Sid has forgiven his original owners by moving beyond the shy and fearful dog he was when we first brought him home. He is a happy and joyful dog now.…

It was a relaxing day at home in the Helfman household. My mom was constantly jabbering on the phone, my dad’s eyes were glued to his computer working, and my brother was stuck to his bed and never got up. My brother, Danny had gotten into Syracuse University a few months earlier and he was ecstatic about the life he was going to make for himself. I was really surprised when we came home with a second dog one day. I thought that we were just going to Target and PetSmart and then right back home. As we drove into the back of the parking lot, I wondered what was going on. Another car slowly pulled up beside us. There were several kids in the back. The lady in the front got out and opened the back door. There was a lot of time of just her and the kids trying to grab whatever was back there. Finally, she pulled out a small dog. That’s when I realized that we were getting another dog, and also figured out the reason we brought our other dog.I was surprised that we finally got the second dog we had been wanting.
