Personal Narrative: Coles Session
Coles Session 1 Journal
As people grow up, there is always something that they want to be and that is because of someone or something that inspires them. For me I wanted to be a professional golfer because Tiger Woods was one of the best at the time.
Life went on and other things started to influence my life that was more important than an athlete. Those influences for me involved children, how people should be being treated, and a prayer meeting.
When I was in my younger teenage years, I volunteered in our Children's
Ministry with the 4th Graders. I lead a small group of boys and during that time
I started to develop a heart for the younger kids. By leading the group I was helping them develop whom they are and what they wanted to be when

Walking into the locker room about to get ready to go to our last football game of the season. I could smell the sweaty equipment from the kids who never take their pads home. The Hempfield Spartans 7th grade team would be ending their season 0-7 if we didn’t win today. As I was changing into my pads my friend mike walked in the room. I said “you ready for tonight”. “Heck yeah” replied Mike.…

My greatest influences are my parents and my brother. My brother suffered from Guillain- Barre Syndrome when he was eight. He lived in the hospital on an artificial ventilation for 97 days and later he had to continue physical therapy for at least ten years as he was completely paralyzed. My parents and my brother devoted their few years completely for his treatment. Today, my brother is a successful engineer working in the bay area. I learned that with dedication, determination and diligence we can achieve our dream in life…

At the age of 10, my parents encouraged me to volunteer as an altar server in the church. Good thing they did because this helped me to overcome stage fright and to see life from a bigger perspective, a world where everyone deserves a good quality of life and freedom. The high point of this lesson came when I participated in World Youth Day in Poland in 2016. I encountered many cultures through…

Today was the day. The big day. My election for Lieutenant Governor of Division 2B for Key Club, an international service club, was today. Fear and anxiety pricked my skin in rapid movements emanating from every pore. I rehearsed my speech for the fifth time that day. Upon arrival at the Fairfax Library, I urged myself to remain calm. I quickly scouted out the other girls who were present; one girl was dressed professionally with a folder in her hand. I knew that was my competition. The girl spoke eloquently and genially, she radiated enthusiasm and a certain warmth that I did not have. With every question that was asked, she answered with a smooth smile and high-pitched tone that was dripping with sincerity. I bristled inside; I had just been slapped. I was shrouded in a cloud of anxiety and anxiousness. Suddenly, I was dragged from my reverie.…

I was involved in many service learning experiences all throughout highschool. I was on National Honors Society and we would ring bells for Salvation Army and adopt children around Christmas time. We often volunteered at schools to help watch children, while parents were receiving help in finding careers or when they were being helped in some other manner. However, my favorite service learning that I was involved in was helping coach Special Olympics. This service learning is one of the reasons I am becoming a teacher, and one of the main reasons why my focus is Special Education. I coached my team in soccer, basketball, and track. I loved every minute of it. I spent more time with those kids than I have with any other service learning combined. I coached them starting my sophomore year all the way until I left for college. It was hard leaving my team and I am upset that I cannot go back and see them more often. Service learning has made a huge impact on my life and is something that everyone should become involved with. When you find that one cause that you are passionate about helping with it can transform your life like it did…

I headed to my first class which just so happened to be my favorite subject, English. The hallways were very wide but when filled with students I felt like I had to shove my way through just to get to my locker. The lockers were a mixture between Gray and purple. The school colors were supposed to be purple and silver but there was no way that these lockers could be considered. I took a look at the little piece of paper that the lady in the office had given me and tried out the combination on my locker. It took me about five minutes to open it and after struggling for that long I was a little irritated so when it did open, it flew open and slammed into the locker next to mine. I held my breath and hoped that nobody had noticed. I took a long deep breath and slowly opened my eyes again. Luckily I was still standing alone and nobody around was looking at me. I put my extra books and notebooks into the locker and and closed it as quietly as I could.…

Since I was young I have always volunteered for my Catholic Youth Group. At first I didn 't know many people there and wasn 't very enthusiastic. Later, as I got to know the other kids and starting pushing myself to join in the activities, I learned to enjoy and relish my time there. Some activities we did was decorating the nursing home for Christmas, singing carols, writing letters to the residents, and just sitting there visiting and listening to what they had to share. I have realized how important the elderly are to our society and I truly appreciate the advice they gave me. It was a very rewarding experience and I got to do many things I wouldn 't have had an opportunity to do otherwise.…

Throughout all my hours working on my senior project which is volunteering at the Kids Unlimited after school program, I have achieved many duties that include being responsible for children. By doing that I had to show the kids how to be respectful, responsible and safe. I did many activities with the kindergarteners such as playing games, watching movies, coloring, helping with homework, and playing outside with them. The steps I took to plan this project of mine were to gain the skills and ability to be around little children.…
