Your appearance is a part of who you are. It helps to make you unique from others. Changing your appearance can be a nerve-wrecking experienced. Like most people in the world, my appearance is important to me. I like to look my best, as much as possible. Most people have a favorite quality about their appearance, such as their eyes, teeth, etc. My favorite quality of my appearance was my long hair. I loved my hair, but I was growing bored with it. So, I decided to cut my hair short. Cutting my hair was a nerve-wrecking and an interesting experience, that dramatically changed my appearance. Ever since the age of 4 or 5, I have always had long hair that was past my shoulders. I loved long hair. As a child, I would see people with long hair to their lower back, and I would want hair that long. I only ever got my hair trimmed: I never got it cut. By the time I was 16 years old, I had hair that …show more content…
I would go to run my fingers through my hair, only to find a small amount of hair to do so with. I had to find new ways to style my hair: I could no longer put my hair in a bun or a ponytail. I had to get my hair cut about every 6 weeks to maintain my haircut. There is positives to having short hair, though. My hair have more volume now than it ever did with long hair. Short hair is easier to take care of than long hair. I don’t use as much shampoo or conditioner as I used to. My hair air dry quicker now. Overall, short hair is easier to have than long hair. Overall, my hair received positive comments and compliments. I received a few negative comments, but they don’t matter. I love my hair and that’s is the only thing that matters. I look younger than 18 with short hair. So, I often get asked about my age. I even got told I looked 12 years old a few time. I have got mistaken as a boy once, which I’m not quite sure why. Mostly, I received positive comments and

To start with, I will provide you with some knowledge about the structure of hair. Hair is made up of two basic parts: The follicle, which is the actively growing root or base of a hair containing DNA and living cells, and the shaft, which is a strand of hair compose of a protein called keratin. The shaft is made up of the medulla (the central core of a hair fiber), the cortex (the region of a hair located outside of the medulla containing granules of pigment), and the cuticle (the tough outer covering of a hair composed of overlapping scales). The medulla is different from person to person. Some are continuous, some are fragmented, some aren’t there at all, and some are even doubled. There are also different types of cuticles, including imbricate, which is what humans have, coronal, which is what rodents have, and spinous, which is what animals such as cats have. With a macroscopic view of hair you can see differences in color, length, and where it is curly, wavy, or straight, but that only scratches the surface of what you can see on hair. With a microscopic view you can see the medullary index (the ratio of diameter of the medulla to the diameter of the hair), cuticle type, cortex color, diameter of the hair, and much more.…

In the 1920s, the black minority was considered inferior to the white majority. Blacks thought that they could gain more respect and acceptance if their appearance was more like the whites. By altering their hair, blacks changed their original hairstyle from a curly afro to a straight conk since they thought success was measured with how you looked on the outside. I understand why blacks switched their hair, but when you judge by outside appearances, you are not allowing an individual’s inner strength to be known. Blacks wanted to look like the whites because they felt they would be closer to their level once they had a similar hairstyle. Blacks were so focused on becoming equal that they lost their true self, forgetting that inner strength is greater than outer beauty. I was faced with a similar situation in sixth grade. I wanted to alter my hairstyle because everyone around me had flat, frizz-free hair. I struggled with wanting to maintain my natural appearance and knew I should feel blessed with long, thick, curly, hard to manage hair, but I wanted what my friends had, hair that was straight and more manageable. I did not feel less than my peers, but I wanted the same hair because I did not naturally have it. We often forget about inside beauty and strength and become focused on outside looks and the opinions of others.…

My hair is force to be reckoned with. Its cascading fury flurries around everything, my shoulders, my back, the chair that catches it in its unwavering maw. It’s strong, it lasts through any torture I force upon it. It falls out in clumps and chunks when I tug and pull too much, but mom says that’s normal because my hair is so thick. I have the fullest head of hair in the family, she likes to tease. She’ll affectionately twirl it between her fingers and create little ringlets that fall down and tickle my chin because I didn’t pull it up into a messy ponytail.…

Ever since I was a baby my mum always either braided my hair or put it in a ponytail. At the age of 7 my parents started me in swimming classes. I always wore a swim cap but the water still got under my cap. If my hair wasn't braided my mum would have to shampoo and deep condition my hair when we got home. In 6th grade my mum relaxed my hair and soon regretted it. Since I am very athletic my hair was even harder to upkeep than before, so I decided to stop relaxing it and grow my hair out, causing it to break off. In 7th grade I was able to take part in school sports. I participated in track and field, wrestling, and soccer, whilst still swimming in the summer. Sweat, dirt, rain, heat, humidity and the list goes on. I was constantly worried…

Your hair says a lot about who you are, whether you want it to or not! We assume things about people based on the way they dress, and that includes hair. We make conscious decisions about how to style our hair and how to present ourselves to others, which gives us a lot of control over our outward personality. But what if your hair could really talk? What if it took over the show? In this fun infographic, we take some popular characters from TV shows and movies like Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Dragon Ball Z and imagine what their hair would say if it was the main character instead of the person it\'s attached to. For some characters, their hair is their best friend. For others, it might be their worst enemy! What would your hair…
