Personal Narrative: Breaking A Bone
Breaking a bone does not hurt as bad as people make it out to be. Your body goes into shock and everything goes numb from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. I've been planning on going down this hill for months with my friends, However, someone always seemed to be with their family, or their board was broken, or they had to do their homework. People were just busy and I had to accept that and just wait until everyone was free. I texted every day asking if they were free every night, it was a struggle for me to wait, I would be sitting in spanish class watching watching famous longboarders go down the same hill daydreaming imagining it was me going down the hill instead of the people I was watching. Finally the day came I texted in the group chat we have created and to my astonishment everyone was free.
“Im finally going down that hill” I said to myself over and over as I was cleaning my bearings, replacing

I got out of bed took a shower and got ready, grabbed my longboard, said goodbye to my mom, and left to the max station. On the max ride to the hill all my friends starting talking about how excited they all were. However I was getting worried again, I doubted myself, that was my first mistake when you're about to go down a hill you have to be confident in yourself. Once we got off the max my friends and i had to walk about 2 miles up a hill, it was not fun. On the way up the hill my friends started mentioning falling which was the 2nd mistake, you NEVER mention falling it's bad juju. At the top of the hill my friends and i played rock paper scissors to see who is going to gone down. “Ok so it's quincy, kodi,me,then dylan” I said “Why do I always go first” says quincy angrily, The most nerve racking part of longboarding is that moment of silence when you and all of your friends are starting down the hill “Let's get it” said

The house had finally slept in (I assumed the excessive drinking over a two day span was the cause of this) and I felt like a million dollars. We packed up our things and headed to the slopes to catch a few more runs before heading back to Denver. Before we hit the chairlift I decided it would be in my best interests to keep drinking, and so I did. I took the leftover handle of vodka and polished every last disgusting drip out of it. Now that I had had my breakfast I was ready to ride, or at least I thought. Now I've snowboarded for most of my life so snowboarding to me is like second nature, but today was a little different. As the lift approached the top of the mountain I assumed the position to get off but wobbled a little too much and fell off about 5 feet before it arrived. Thank the lord it was a 3 foot drop at most and nothing was hurt but my ego. The lift attendants immediately ran over making sure I was ok. I brushed them off playing it cool and rode off. The rest of the run was about as sketchy as that first lift; I couldn't balance worth a damn. That's when I decided it would be best for others and myself if I quit and just went to the…

I first started walking Fred Flintstone style until I reached the peak of the hill. When I first started going down the hill the adrenaline hit me. With no control over my speed it felt like a helpless free fall and the only thing I could do was steer perfectly through the narrow path. The most difficult part though was avoiding the dead piles of grass that lined the sides of the path. Being an abandoned golf course there isn’t much upkeep except cutting the grass every once in a while which built up on the side of the path. After the exhilarating and successful run I ran back up to Paul for his turn telling him how fun it…

My occupation has evolved into what you know today as chiropractic or osteopathy. When I first started practicing, we called it bonesetting. Bonesetting is the treatment of disease and manipulation to joints and bones in the body. Bonesetting does treat disease; however, we do not classify ourselves among the physicians of the time. We maintain our own guild or group that share information amongst itself and learn from each other. We are also rather religious in that generations ago, our bonesetting fathers and mothers began the skill by casting out demons with every crackle and pop of the joints.…

As I ran that hill I began to cry because of the pain. I thought my legs were going to give out from underneath me. The pain I was feeling helped me take a few strides that caused me to stumble a little, but soon regained my composure. I was at the top. All that was left was one last final turn, and then the downhill. I could see the finish line in the distance and then started sprinting. Coach Rojas was screaming at me to keep going and not to stop. At this point, my heart was pounding rapidly. My body was worn down, hot and exhausted. Crossing the finish line was the only thing on my mind. For a moment, I blocked off from the race and thought about all the hard work that went into the season. I crossed the finish line and at that moment I knew that I had put my sweat and tears into this race. I couldn’t feel my legs, all I wanted was water. Soon after I heard that we won Second place in the district which was the best the team has won. I felt no pain at this point since I was part of a group of people who loved this sport and put effort into it. It gave me happiness to be part of a team that now was like my…

“We all stray from time to time….and when you do, OWN IT! If you deny it….you are giving up control again.” This can teach a lesson to people struggling with drugs and alcohol. If you deny that you have a problem, you will continue to let these things control your life, but if you own up to it, you can help yourself or get help from others. The quote, from the “I don’t know the Bible…” paragraph, “‘Well done, my good and faithful servant,”’ reflects what I believe in and what I have learned. Growing up I heard many people tell me, “God first, others second, and yourself last.” First of all, these two quotes are telling me to live a faithful life by putting God first. Also, to put others before me and serve them just like Jesus did.…

Time is winding down and the past thirty nine weeks has been nothing short but amazing. It has been full of different emotions and feelings. From the stretching of the skin to the sudden movement I have never felt before. It was all a new experience, but the feeling was indescribable. After a restless night, the sunrise appeared before I knew it. The pain was unbearable, but after several hours and a couple of good pushes you were here. I was extremely exhausted, but the relief was absolutely amazing. At first sight I fell in love with you. Not for how you look, just for who you are. I never thought I could feel affection like this. What is this? Is this how it's assume to feel or even resemble? It's kind of insane how you, only one individual,…

One of the worst injuries that has ever occurred to me was having my fingers burned by extremely hot water. It was a cold, dark day at 7:31pm, and it was just me, my older brother, Gideon, and my younger brother, Theodore. I was 9 years old, Theodore was 2 years old, and Gideon was 12 years old. Every day I would drink some hot tea, because I tended to be extremely sensitive to the cold. And when I say sensitive, I am talking about that if I was drinking regular temperature water, I would be shivering probably throughout the rest of the night. Gideon was doing homework at the basement, while Theodore was sleeping in my parents’ bedroom. I was making myself some hot tea, when I accidentally poured hot water on my hand for 2 seconds. Now 2 seconds seem like nothing, but when something like…

Have you ever broken every bone in your body?! Oh yeah, neither have I...but I did tear my ACL one time during a soccer game. I was running down the field so exhausted, I slipped rolled over the ball fell back and banged my head on the rough, scratchy turf. I fell so badly on my knee. I started getting tunnel vision, and I had a huge headache, I knew it was not long till I went unconcious. I could hear my heart pounding in my ears and head, I slowly looked down at my leg. I was not seeing the extent of my injuries because it was on the inside mostly. My adrenaline thankfully also kept me from feeling the extent of my current situation, thank goodness! Looking back at it now I realize that it was not just my ACL that I tore. Let us just say…

I remember reaching the top of the hill with a very excited feeling. As I got to the top, the instructor at the top helped me off the chair. I waited for the other instructor to explain how I control my movements. While he was talking, all I thought about was hitting a tree and embarrassing myself. I just stood there looking at his red nose and chapped lips. He finally said something I found useful, he told me to lean whichever way I wanted to steer. After he finished explaining, I just went down that big hill of snow.…
