Personal Narrative-Abandoned Building
The Building
"Make sure you stay away from the abandoned building," they said. I should have listened. That was what they said the night that it happened. I was walking home that night I saw the old abandoned building. I had to take a different route this time because there was construction going on the sidewalk. I and my friend Shawn were walking home because he was spending the night at my house and the next morning we planned to go to Kings Island. Shawn hadn't been there in a while so we decided that going there would be fun. We got home and ate a lot of food, as usual, and then played video games. My mom came home with a big box of pizza, unaware that we ate over a pound each of candy. We ate each a couple slices of pizza and decided that video games were starting to get boring so we went outside. We waited out there for about a minute deciding what we should do when Shawn said: “How about baseball?”. Yay! I thought because I love baseball and I didn’t plan on him saying that because when we play I usually beat him and then he starts throwing the ball at me. We grab a bat and hunt for a baseball when we find a plastic ball that will work just as well. I tell my mom “were going down to the field to play baseball.” she responded, “Make sure you stay away from the abandoned building.”. Yeah, yeah the abandoned building, not stable, whatever. We walk down to the field and find

I decide to throw him an easy one. “Ding!”. He hits it hard there it goes. “Crash!” it hits the window of the building. “You hit it you get it!” He runs to the building and opens the door. “Smash!” it falls off the hinge and onto the sidewalk. I hear him stomping around and then it falls silent. “Shawn!” no answer. “Shawn-fricken'-Game! Come on!”. He comes running at the door. Badly bruised and cut. “Whoosh!” something grabs him and throws him back. I run to the door and see him cut. In the face and arm. He looks at me and faintly says

It was a beautiful summer day. Not a cloud in the sky and the sun beating down on anyone under it. It was a perfect day to call over my friends and have an adventure or play ultimate Frisbee like we did almost any day. Today, my neighbor and I, Paul, decided to change things up for a change. We decided to use my homemade go-kart on the abandoned golf course, Blue Heron, behind my house. We grabbed our helmets and took brushed the dust off the go-kart from years sitting in my basement garage for years and were on our way to the long steep hills that Blue Heron had to offer.…

Dad said midnight and unless Darrell could fly, I was headed for real trouble. Darrell and I chose to go to county fair and like every cliché couple, we had it set to go at sundown in order to get the perfect Instagram post. Luminous pinks, yellows, and blues sparkled a mile out as we caught our exit to enter the fair grounds. Vibrations under our toes grew heavier and heavier as we got closer to the entrance and with a $12 stamp on our right hand we ventured out on running feet. We spent our night soaring high and low with dangling feet, carrying weightless bags of fluffy, crystallized sugar as heavy gusts of wind hosed us leaving the aroma of fresh, crisp funnel cakes. Captivated by parading aisles of games had us lose complete track of time.…

The first house my father built was constructed room by room and took more than 25 years to be built, a continuous work in progress. The original house was built in the standard square format without standard electricity and started with just four rooms: living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom. The bathroom was located about 70 feet away in a little draw or valley from the house, which during the winter could be cold as the wind blew snow in during the most inopportune moments. New square rooms were attached to old square rooms as the house expanded outward to accommodate our growing family.…

I remember when they kicked us out. It was only a couple of weeks ago. We Indians were minding our own business when the troops first came. They dragged us out of our tents and sent us walking with only the clothes on our back. My family decided to go to the Oklahoma region along with our tribe. And so here we are, walking through forests, woods, and plains on The Trail of Tears, looking for our destination. We have been walking since, and our clothing can do nothing against the harsh rain, snow, and coldness.…

My mom and I were running late. Not like it was anything new. We were supposed to be in Moulton no later than 5:30, and now it was closer to 6:00. We finally pulled into the apartment complex, where we were supposed to meet this guy, at a little after 6:00. After searching for this guy for a few minutes[->0] and a few phone calls, we assumed that we had missed him. "See Mom, you should have gotten off of work early," I said just as I saw the guy pull into the parking lot. "Hey are you ready to move into your apartment?" asked the guy. After a few minutes of struggling to get the furniture into the apartment, I figured it was the end of the adventure. A few weeks[->1] later, after getting home from work, my mom was telling me that I would never guess who had called her earlier in the day. Not being in a great mood, I just shrugged my shoulders as to suggest that I didn't really care. Then she asked me if I remembered the guy who we had met just a few days before. She told me that he had called to ask her if she wanted to go out one night that coming weekend.…
