Personal Narrative: A Walk Into The Cafeteria
Today as I was walking into the cafeteria; there was a paper on the every door that said “Due to the incident on November 14, Cheez-its are no longer allowed in the cafeteria! Thank you for your cooperation.” Every kid in the whole grade was wondering if the paper was real or a joke. The whole lunch period, everyone was talking about the new rule and how they thought it was nonsense. The sixth graders were telling everyone different stories about why Cheez-its are abandon from our school.

One group of kids were saying someone choked on some Cheez-its and died. Another group was saying there was a food fight with Cheez-its. I didn’t know who to believe but both of them are bad and against school rules. Then my friend reminded my lunch table

The Cheesecake Factory, I once believed that the establishment would be a bakery that primarily sold cheesecakes, sweets and such. Although, I’ve never heard much about the restaurant, or what it actually was other than people are familiar with the establishment and only comment on the cheesecakes. Yet, I had not known that that was the place I was dining in, I only believed under presumption of its name that we were going to eat at some other random place when I walked through the doors of the restaurant. Now the reason I say random was the fact that this place was not like how I imagined the praiseworthy Cheesecake Factory to be at all. My expectations of this place was exactly how Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory felt and as colorful as Tim Burton’s remake of Alice in Wonderland was.…

I remember anxiously waiting for 9:00 o’clock so we could go explore the store. The grocery store could be kind of spooky during the night but this didn’t bother us too much because we would be busy playing tag or hide and seek throughout the store. The grocery store has seven aisles. Aisles 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are nothing special but aisle 6 is divided into in half by a variety of items as well as a candy box ( I don’t know what else to call it).…

Cheez-its are banned in the cafeteria from now on, all because of what happened on November 14th. This wasn't anybody's fault. It was an awful, awful accident . Someone was trying to eat their Cheez-its peacefully when someone else made him laugh. He started to choke on the Cheez-its. He coughed and coughed and coughed and finally the Cheez-its went flying out of his throat on to the flour. Then, Mrs. Conway walked by. She was quickly walking and smiling at all the eighth grade students, who happen to be her favorite students of all time. I do not think she saw the slippery, slimey, gooey mess of Cheez-its on the floor. As she took her next step, her feet slid out from under her. Her hands looked like rubber as they were flying in the…

As a Chinese-American, my family expected me to help out at the restaurant while maintaining straight A's in school. But, it wasn't easy; every day, I would report to the restaurant after school and immediately start working. Inside the kitchen, I would pack all the orders into aluminum containers, place them into a brown bag, and insert packets of sauces and utensils. Burns and cuts were common due to the terrible and tearable aluminum containers. Outside at the front desk, I would answer the seemingly endless ringing phones. In many instances, customers had to wait either on the phone or at the front desk for me to find their orders on the computer, even after they showed me where it was on the menu. During lunch hours, the pressure was even…

To tell my story, I have to set the scene. It was the summer of 2014, the Thursday before school started actually. I had not seen familiar faces in a while so, I was ready to get back. I did not realize it yet, but taking a job at Whataburger would be the biggest (only) mistake I ever made.…

In Defense of Food was quite shocking at first. In all honesty, it made me think I was going to die within the next week due to a heart attack triggered by all the junk I eat. Considering I myself indulge in processed cookies from the aisles of Stop and Shop, and steak tips that have been marinating in salt for two days, the film hit close to home. But in all honesty, I don’t eat that bad; in comparison to the Seventh-Day Adventists I do, but I think I’m doing alright.…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…

Everyday is a new day for me. I wake up everyday pondering whether or not I will be able to get through the day without a single complaint. As I woke up this morning, I went straight to my coffee machine to make my coffee as I always do. What was strange is that every time I tried to start it up, it wouldn't start. After realizing that my coffee machine, my most prized possession, was broken, I quickly got ready with my signature messy bun and went to the nearest coffee shop. I was going to get my coffee. After ordering my favorite coffee at Dunn Brothers, I was not happy to see that they messed up my order. I went to my work and hoped that the not-my-order-coffee would kick in soon. This day has already started off horribly and I did not…

I believe my diet is nutritionally adequate. I prepare fresh and healthier food at home and pack snacks from home too. Beside healthier food choice, packing snacks from home is inexpensive and save my time from traveling to any convenience store or fast food restaurants. I stay away from processed, frozen, and prepackaged foods. I make everything fresh and not frozen, but I travel two to three times to the store per week to buy fresh vegetables, fruits and other necessary stuffs.…

This week reminded me how amazing and important my job is. Friday was a busy day at the office; I was rushing to finish my work so I could leave on time. As I was about to leave I received a phone call from a hiring manager (Mark) with NOAA. Mark had questions about the interview process and was calling to speak to one of my colleagues. Unfortunately, my colleague was on vacation and wouldn’t be back for another week. I looked at the clock and realized it was time to go but I could hear the frustration in Mark’s voice. Instead of leaving, I spent almost an hour listening to Mark’s concerns, answering his questions, and I explained how the federal hiring process works. At the end of our conversation, Mark thanked me for my time and he told me…
