Personal Narrative: A Day In Pullman
As a college student, its your duty to at least go to one football game. However, every year I kept putting it off. Now that I am junior, I could not put it off any longer. I knew that I was going to have lots of fun because my best friend was going with me. So, that eased my worries of being a loner and not knowing anyone. Although, one thing I have learned is that nothing quite goes to plan. My friend ended up not being able to go to the football game. I was rather frustrated. I knew I was going to be a weird loner who follows everyone around because he knows no one. What felt like years, it was finally game day.

The day of I made sure to check the weather in Pullman. It was exactly the same as is in Kennewick, which was cold and rainy.

It was either going to be rather fun or quite terrible. It was surprisingly a fun time. I ended up talking to people around me on the other side of the isle as well. After some time went by, we started going back to our middle school routes and played MASH for about a hour. Every time my future was being told, I got rather crappy modes of transportation. One time I got a cardboard box and another time it was a boat. Needless to say, I was going to be doing a lot of walking. Then everyone on the bus decided we needed to stop for food. However, going from Tri-Cities to Pullman there is absolutely nothing. The bus driver ended up stopping us at a sketchy truck stop. I was standing in line then Mary told me to look up. It was this streamer like object that was sticky and had tons of flies stuck on it. Then I started looking at the ceiling in other areas and these streamer objects were everywhere with tons of flies stuck to them. It was rather disgusting. After getting back on the bus, we played one more game before arriving to …show more content…
We had one hour before the game started. In my group, it was Susan, Marry, and Jill. It was pouring down rain so we were fast walking to the bookie (the book store of the university). As we were fast walking up this overly large hill, I get a text from one of my friends who moved to Pullman. I said that I was currently headed to the bookie. She then replied saying she was currently in the bookie. Once we got to the bookie, I actually walked right by my friend. Which is amazing because the store is huge. It was great to see her and catch up a little bit before heading off. Once we killed sometime, we headed off to the game. Apparently, it matters which gate you enter because we were told this was the wrong gate. It did not quite make sense because they all lead to the same place. Once we got inside the stadium, we had to find our

It was going to be a short ride only about 4 hours altogether through the South Dakota mountains. About an hour into our ride, we reached the mountains and as soon as we did Brody, Eli, Maddy, and I rode our horses to the top of the mountains. When we reached the top of the mountains we got off our horses and looked out over the South Dakota scenery, it was a beautiful view. I have never seen a better view in my life. You could see so far since we were up so high in the air and when we looked down at Tommy and Cassie they looked like ants. After we took a few pictures we headed back down to Tommy and Cassie. We went a little further after we got down from the mountain and then we turned back and headed towards camp. We arrived back at camp we washed, fed, and watered the horses. When we were done with that stuff we made a fire and started carving on sticks for a competition we were having and then at about 11 we went to…

I went to a tailgate for the USC vs. Vanderbilt away game given by Carolina After Dark and I had a blast! I honestly did not know what to expect. I was not planning on going, but decided to meet two of my friends there right before halftime. I was pleasantly surprised. They had really cool music playing and there were people dancing everywhere. It was overall such a fun atmosphere. It took me awhile to find my friends because there were so many people. I was so surprised at how many people were there. There were no seats left near my friends so I sat on the floor next to them. They had two huge white screens that they were projecting the game onto. It was so cool when USC did something good because the whole crowd would act like they were really…

The stadium is well known for its hosting duties of the SEC baseball tournament, showcasing the top twelve teams in the Southeastern Conference. However, most Friday nights, the stadium is occupied by Hoover football fans and players. Once the band arrives, we line up and march into the stadium to our cadence. Marching begins right outside of the buses, continues into the stadium, and ends once we have reached the section of the stadium, which has been designated for the band, prior to the fans arrival. The band plays a few stand chants while the Buccanettes dance along. Once the clock strikes 10 minutes until the game, the band marches behind the visiting stands to line up for pregame. Pregame includes the entire band marching onto the field to a cadence, turning towards the audience, standing at attention, then playing the national anthem and alma matter. After these two songs are played the band will march into a new formation on the field that will allow the players to run through while the band plays the fight song. Buccanettes stand in front of the band doing our stand dance to this tune, the cheerleaders held a huge sign for the players to run through and the colorguard would run across the field with large Buccaneer flags. The audience’s reaction made the all the previous hours of getting ready worthwhile. The student section was filled with shakers, lettermen, and hundreds of students. The rest of the stadium was filled with fans from the community. After pregame, the band would march back to the stands to begin more stand chants. The band played tunes such as ESPN, sunshine, the fight song, word up, and many others. At the beginning of the second quarter we would again march out of the stadium where stretching would take place to warm up for the halftime show. The first thing…

A day in Memphis is not complete without the diversity in our community. As a second generation Memphian who has primarily lived in Midtown, I had the privilege of watching several different cultures in one place and especially now that I attended one of the largest public schools. Daily, I experience someone else’s world. The people I get to meet and see are from various backgrounds: race, religion, ethnicity, etc. that I may never comprehend, which is wonderful. In Memphis, it is normal to be an enigma, to have idiosyncrasies. I believe that is the heart of Memphis. What makes this heart surpass discrimination is the acceptance that follows years of diversity. My neighborhood has single mothers whose children play with the neighborhood adolescents.…

One day after a long day at work, I stopped into my hometown sports bar to watch Monday night football. The guys and I always razz each other about our favorite teams, as all guys do. A longtime friend of mine, Tim, came in to the bar a short time after. I haven’t seen Tim in quite some time so, of course I was excited to see him. Tim said he came there looking for me because he had a surprise for me. I could not even imagine what it might be. Tim reached into his pocket and pulled out what looked to be some sort of tickets. Somehow, Tim landed two tickets to go see the Greenbay Packer vs. the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field in October. Tim, knowing what a huge Greenbay fan I am, said, “I don’t know anyone who I would rather enjoy going on a road trip to Greenbay with than you.” “Want to go?” I could not say “yes” fast enough.…

Once I was done with breakfast I met up with my friends up on the fourth floor. Once we got up there a counselor walked us over to the OAP. When we got there we figured out we were going canoeing. We loaded up the canoes and then we headed to the sturgeon river. Once we got there we unloaded the canoes and then we got in partners of two. My canoeing partner was Joe. We got started and then everyone was splashing each other. Joe and I kept splashing Robby and Khauldon but after a while, our teachers told us to stop. The canoeing became a race after a while I made it up to second place. We ended up finishing in second place at the end. We got done and loaded up the canoes and headed back. When we got back we unloaded the canoes and then headed back to campus. That night I hung with Nick and Jack in Jack’s room. After we were up there for a while we decided to go down and play pool. Then we went upstairs and went to…

On Saturday April 13, 2013 I was walking through the parking garage on the USAA campus in San Antonio, TX to start my 4 hour work shift, I began to go through the turnstile and seemingly startled awake a bat. This bat began to fly and squeal in fear. It darted at my head getting caught in my hair a couple times. I started to scream and flail my arms about trying to fend off the nocturnal flying mammal in fear. During what seemed to be forever I was able to unlock the turnstile and exit the entry way but not before rupturing two discs in my neck. This incident caused quite the turn of events in my life. I had been working for USAA for 3 years and truly loved it there. I also lived in a beautiful apartment with my mother and two children and…

On the second day of school during my sophomore year, I realized how much Wahlert meant to me. It had become my home, the place where I felt like I belonged; school almost even seemed like a break from summer. Over the summer, I had become an empty shell and spent my time at the computer wasting the time away; the only interactions I had were with my family, and on rare occasion with my best friends, when we had sleepovers. To see the people I had missed over the summer was great. All of these things felt so true in that moment.…

Furman University was the last college I visited on a four-day whirlwind trip to six colleges in North and South Carolina. The sense of community I felt from Furman was unlike any of the other colleges I had visited; it captivated me just as I was losing all interest in college tours. As I drove onto campus this summer with my mom, I immediately felt something was different about this school. It made me feel like I was home. The kids we saw were all walking with friends and seemed exuberant, though they had decided to spend their summer vacation on campus doing research or taking classes. The information session and tour of the campus solidified my feeling of being part of a community because as we walked the campus our tour guides seemed to…
