Personal Narrative: A Career As A Clinical Psychologist
There are many things Nason enjoys about her job, one of her least favorite aspects is firing personnel, in fact she listed it as one of her greatest hardships. So far in her professional career she has only had to fire personnel 3 times. She also “hates” numbers, so the computing part of her job is also something she dislikes, such as making spreadsheets for the insurance denial reports. However, the majority of her job she thoroughly enjoys. Nason likes that her job is something different every day--she has the opportunity to speak with people all over the world as well as traveling through the entire country. She also mentioned how she enjoys being listened to CEO’s in hospital--she strives not to be a burden to them, but rather endeavors to help the hospitals be successful. I was aware she is a RN, however, I had no idea the extent of her experience or of the particulars of her new job. Through our discussion I have gained insight as to what careers a clinical psychologist (which is what I want to become) could pursue in her organization: such as, director of clinical services at a mental health hospital, director of outpatient programs, or assessing patients through psychological testing. Based on the information Nason provided me I do think I would find working at a mental hospital fulfilling. Acadia Healthcare owns many different types of mental hospitals that cater to various age groups, ages 6-105, as well as every ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation. At this time I do not have a preference as to what age group or people group that I would prefer to
