The feeling was only there for a moment before you were falling, and screaming. There was no time to think about why you had ended up at the bottom— you just did. You were here now, and that’s what mattered. For now, at least.…

At the bottom of the pit they found a convoluted arrangement of passages and short pits. After exploring this lower level of cave for an extended period and not finding anything promising, McGuffin, decided to squeeze under a narrow ledge, bringing her to the edge of an obvious dome-pit complex that appeared at least 60 feet tall. While calling out to Schreiber to join her, she tossed a rock off the edge of the pit to test the pit's depth. However, to her shock, she didn't hear the familiar rock echo she was expecting. With Schreiber now at her side, she tossed a bigger rock. Waiting for what seemed like an eternity, they finally heard a deafening echo from below, a full 7 seconds after the rock was thrown. Doing quick calculations, the duo realized this meant that the pit they had just discovered over a mile into the cave was at least 500 feet deep, a new United States record.…

If I had to categorize my feelings during orientation, it would be exhausted, uncomfortable, isolated and interested. Thursday was action packed with events; from 6 am to 11pm I was on the move. After the rain soaked scavenger hunt, I was stripped of all the energy & enthusiasm I possessed at the beginning of the day. As a result I fell asleep once my head touched my soft pillow and my body laid on that stone hard “mattress” . In unfamiliar settings and situations I immediately become uncomfortable. Between not being in Philadelphia and not knowing anyone in the group, the uneasy and awkward feelings started to set in throughout the the day. This uncomfortable feeling would later lead to isolation. Everyone was so approachable,…

As I was writing my personal narrative for my composition 1 class, it easily made my mind boggle. After I had got started on my personal narrative, it was easy for me to keep writing and keep following along the story line. The main strength of mine that the essay played to was my creativity and my flexibility for different writings, because I have never written an essay as serious and sad as this one, but I did have to add my happy ending when I finished the story. I wanted it to be very attention grabbing with a twist, but I also wanted it to be very emotional.…

The fourth quarter had arrived and all the pressure was suddenly nudging against our team and Cadillac. The score was even, 65 to 65, as the starting five for the quarter huddled around Coach Dubie. Everybody, including me, were exhausted from a long, exasperating battle. “ Alright boys, let’s win this thing,” coach commented firmly. Then, we stepped onto the court ready for war. I matched up with my opponent, who was considerably larger than I and intimidating to most, but that didn’t matter now. Rapidly, Ryan passed the ball from out of bounds to Noah to start the quarter. Quickly, Noah dished the ball to me for an easy lay-up, which gave us the lead. Soon, the quarter was halfway over and the lead had suddenly taken favor of Cadillac’s team. Subsequently,Coach Dubie signaled for a time out and waved me over to the bench. So I seated myself next to Jason who had a look of doubt on his face as he glanced in the direction of the clock to see the score. “ Oh…

Lying in bed, I was sleeping soundly unaware that my life was going to be changed forever. It was 5 am on a Thursday; everything was turning out to be just another day at the beginning of the summer. All of a sudden I was shaken awake. I was slow to open my eyes so I was not aware of what was happening yet. I was unaware that my life was about to change forever. I finally opened my eyes and was very startled to see the face of a man that I had never seen before me talking to me and directing me to get out of bed. I did what I was told and noticed that there was another large man standing outside my door.…
