August 7th 2012 has to be one of the most memorable days of my life. I had one of the most life changing experiences that day. This was the day my daughter was born and I became a father. I have had a lot of memorable experiences in my life, but nothing compares to this day. This was also the day that my life changed for the better.

My daughter was not due until August 13th yet my girlfriend was telling me that she was in a lot of pain on August 3rd and that she thought she was going to have the baby early. She left home from work early that day because she was in so much pain. After not having the baby over the weekend she went back to work that Monday, August 6th. She was still not feeling well that day, so she talked to her boss and ask if she could go on maternity leave early. I was not expecting her to go into labor that day, so when I got home that day I was surprised to hear that her water had just broke shortly before I arrived and she was ready to go to the hospital. This is when I knew everything was about to change.

When I heard my daughter cry for the first time I was so excited. When I saw my daughter for the first time the first thing I noticed was that her nose looked just like mine. I was so nervous when they told me to cut the umbilical cord. When I first looked into her eyes I could do nothing but cry tears of joy. She was the most precious and beautiful little girl I have ever seen. I have never experienced so much joy and one day and that is why this is the most memorable day of my life.

Things have definitely changed, she likes to cry now, and really loud too. Besides that I love her so much!…

I can still remember the day the doctors told me I was pregnant. That immediate sense of fear swallowed me whole and time seemed to stand still. It was not until a couple of months later that I realized there was no changing the situation and that I needed to make the very best of it. Finding out I was pregnant started out as a very scary experience but ultimately was one of the most positive and rewarding experiences I have ever endured. After the fear settled a little bit I was able to really start thinking about my life and what I needed to change. Up until that day at the doctors I was living day by day doing what I needed to do for me and no one else. I had no job, I was living with my parents and my only source of excitement came from the local bar rooms late at night. I knew things needed to change and I set out on a mission to make that change happen. Alone and afraid I was able to swallow my pride and ask my family for help and the guidance to get my life back on track before this baby entered our world. All through my pregnancy I knew I loved my unborn son more than I have ever loved anything in this world. I knew that my life was no longer mine…

On the evening of January 14, 2010, I was at a basketball game with my friends. Because my parents were divorced, I planned on my dad picking me up from the game and bringing me home to my moms. After trying for a few minutes to get ahold of my mom before leaving the school, my dad finally arrived. He told me that my mom was at the hospital and that she was in labor. Since we had planned ahead, I knew that he would bring…

I still remember when my sister announced that she was pregnant. She brought the whole family out to dinner, and wrote things on our napkins like “Proud Aunt or Proud Grandpa.” Out of joy, my eyes watered and I hugged my sister and congratulated her. I counted down the months and days until her due date. Finally, the day has come and my first baby niece has arrived. She was one week early.…

I then realized the look on the doctor’s face and that in it spoke the words that were unspoken. She started explaining to us that the mother was only 22 ½ weeks along and that she was going into premature labor. We had a decision to make -we could either let her naturally go into labor with the baby being breech (this will cause a head catch) which lessens the chance of survival or do an emergency C- section. For the first time in my life I had no way of fixing this. This was out of my hands and into the hands of God. I felt alone, desperate and frightened. I just kept thinking this wasn’t supposed to happen to me. I’m a good person! I go to church; I help people in need, and I greet people with a smile to brighten their day. So the question kept popping in mind why did this happen to me?…

I'm so nervous and worried but they called us into the room to get her ready for the surgery. My little baby girl didn't know what was about to happen. My heart was falling apart to see her so small and having to experience this. They finally take her in so I tell her how much I love her and cry. After seven hours of waiting, they call me and tell me that the surgery was over and I could go in to intensive care to see her. That moment was the worst seeing her in so much pain. She passed out on me twice and doctors were so concerned of her reaction. Being there for a month wondering if she was going to make it or not is something I don't wish no one will ever have to go through.
