The Inside Look of Nursing My aspiration for nursing was sparked early in my high school years when my mom was diagnosed with Anemia and I visited her at the hospital on a daily basis. This particular experience exposed to me the roles that nurses play in the hospital setting. The functions of the human body and the effects of the environment, drugs, and genetics on the human never failed to capture my interest, however at that moment I knew that I wanted to do what the nurses did. With such a variety of paths one could take, I thought it be perfect for someone who wanted to travel, take care of people and feel like they've contributed their fair share to the world; these were the thoughts that came to my mind when it was time to pick a career. Once I had decided on Nursing as my profession, it was necessary to set some short and long term goals for the future. Setting these goals were more easily said than done. Currently, my goals are set in the University of Louisville, I plan to graduate with my BSN in Nursing. After my graduation, I want to first serve my community by offering medical assistance to those who are less fortunate such as volunteering for Red cross or at a local hospital. Only after I have done my share in the community will I travel to different areas of the world to offer medical assistance. My long term goal is to become a pediatrics nursing because children have always been my strong point . While researching about nursing, I realized that it required a lot more out of someone rather than just the basics. For instance “It is estimated that 69.5% of errors in medication dosing involves children.(Schmidt, 2011, p.1) In this journal article I read, the author talked about how there are dosage calculation errors all the time in pediatric care and compared the two methods the staff used to calculate these dosages. The two methods they mainly used were the volume/weight based calculations

Growing up, I was never told much about my birth, only that I was large. I was raised in a single parent household and I was pushed out into the world to develop and learn many different things about life. Being born in the 90s, I would have thought more diverse worldwide events would have occurred. While researching the date I was born and the various years, I found quite a bit of criminal activity involved in the articles I found. Although my birth was the happiest day for some, it was possibly the worst day for others.…

Ever since I was a child, I wanted to become a nurse. My father was always in and out of the hospital as a result of diabetes. One of my earliest memories is of him telling me to become a nurse so that I can take care of him. He passed away when I was ten years old. As a result, I devoted my school career to pursuing a nursing degree, seeing as it was what my father wanted. That was until my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2007.…

I chose nursing as my profession because of my mother and other factors. My mother was an influence because early this year she was in the hospital for two weeks and during that period I only saw the doctor thrice. The nurses where the ones doing everything, so I felt they were the ones who nursed her back to health. The other deciding factors were: variety of places for jobs whether in the public, private, or community setting; the opportunity to learn new things since no day is ever the same; the opportunity to work with other health professionals; nurses will always be needed; nursing offers specialty areas, and the opportunity to be a traveling nursing.…

The article begins by giving an example of how most Americans approach the study of science. The quote states…“ most Americans observe whatever we wish to understand, introduce our own classification of what is going on, and explain what we see in our own terms.” Basically what the opening quote is implying is that instead of trying to understand why something happens, or why someone acts someway; we try to compare ourselves to the situation or thing we are trying to understand. By doing this we come up with conclusions that are based on our belief system, and not on whatever we are studying.…

A political campaign is an organized effort which seeks to influence the decision making process within a specific group. In democracies, political campaigns often refer to electoral campaigns, wherein representatives are chosen or referendums are decided. In modern politics, the most high profile political campaigns are focused on candidates for head of state or head of government, often a President or Prime Minister. Political campaigns have existed as long as there have been informed citizens to campaign amongst. Often mass campaigns are started by the less privileged or anti-establishment viewpoints (as against more powerful interests whose first resort is lobbying). The phenomenons of political campaigns are tightly tied to lobby groups and political parties. The first 'modern' campaign is thought to be William Ewart Gladstone's Midlothian campaign in the 1880s, although there may be earlier recognizably modern examples from the 19th century. Democratic societies have regular election campaigns, but political campaigning can occur on particular issues even in non-democracies so long as freedom of expression is allowed. American election campaigns in the 19th century created the first mass-base political parties and invented many of the techniques of mass campaigning In the 1790-1820s, the Federalist Party and the Democratic-Republican Party battled it out in the so-called "First Party System".…

It was typically Hmong for patients to appear passively obedient – thus protecting their own dignity by concealing their ignorance and their doctor’s dignity by acting deferential – and then, as soon as they left the hospital, to ignore everything to which they had supposedly assented” (page 68). This quote by author, Anne Fadiman, of ethnography The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down demonstrates quite well the cultural clash between the Hmong and the MCMC doctors. This quote is important and meaningful because I believe this ethnography’s main theme was cultural understanding. This true story involves the life of Lia Lee, a Hmong child who is epileptic. She suffers severe grand mal seizures and eventually, as a result, becomes vegetative for the rest of her life. The key point of the book, however, is not Lia’s epilepsy as much as it is the cultural barriers that led to what simply destroyed Lia’s brain. Decisions between Lia’s doctors and her parents on treatment, healing, and what actions to make on saving Lia’s life is the base of the main conflicts we as readers saw. Fadiman uses this battle as a way of discussing Western and Eastern medicine and how each group views the patient in such different ways.…

In my ethnography I'm going to study a coffeehouse chain, such as Starbucks. I will be observing as well as socializing in attempt to compare and contrast multiple characteristics one must have to face in working in such an environment. At Starbucks the Baristas must have a genuine upbeat personality to each customer. I would like to study a locally owned coffee house as well to compare the different environments and how one might keep a small business afloat when we have such large chains. I will be observing the interactions that the Barista have with each customer and how he/she will handle that customer.…

Everyone has a certain language and behavior depending on where they are or where they’re from. I personally have experienced different ways language has been portrayed when I’m around a certain place or with a certain person, like a relative per say. In my family, when we are at home, we get in a very comfortable state of being as, opposed to the way we would in a public setting. My parents who are not from the United States, express their language and behavior in a different way from others. At home, my parent’s usually speak to me and my brothers in English, however, they would also use certain terms or sentences in Albanian. In public however, they usually speak English, but they would have a hard time talking to people who are non-Albanian.…
