Personal Conflict
People’s strengths and weaknesses are revealed during conflict
Throughout all of human history there has been conflict, whether it is between nations, within families or just simply the never ending battle of the raging natural weather. But when times of conflict do arrive it is certain people are subject to challenge about who they are, what they believe and whether it will influence them to change.

In our little court we have a neighbour who most of the 13 years spent living next too, we never really got along. A good example of this bitterness between me and their son of the same age was a night when his father was put in an ambulance. The son accused me of parking in the way of ambulance but I had thought there was more than enough space for it to pass. Since we always avoided each other from direct talk, this was a great opportunity to let each other know just how we felt about each other, which involved colourful words and lovely threats therefor leading to my father having no choice but to come out side and intervene.

Identifying weaknesses and strengths can be very biased. Some people may agree that dealing with an issue in an aggressive manor (which is how we both responded) is a strength and to some, including my Dad, may call it a weakness, though in times of hardship it’s easy to react to a conflict based on emotions without second thought, therefor I believe your actions are based on your true feelings. The initial spark of the conflict was how his father was put into an ambulance and because of those emotions; it led him to start an argument with me, rather than ignore each other like we have done over all the years.

Though it may have led to the neighbour spitting on our lawn, what may have happened if it weren’t for my father intervening could have been a lot worse. Self-control is inarguably a valued strength, and it was self-control that we both were lacking, which you could say was our weakness, that was defiantly revealed that

My dad has always been my hero because of his amazing ability to control his emotions. I’ve never seen my dad fly off the handle when frustrated by an ignorant individual or panic in a time of danger or emergency, he lives his life calm, cool and collected, he’s the rock that holds my family down in the fierce winds of emotional hurricanes. Of course, your parents weren't all too bothered. They'd taught you to stand up for yourself no matter the consequences, and you wouldn't forget that for a minute. That wasn't the first lesson they'd taught you, but it was the one you most carried with you. Other things seemed less important - making your presence and your strength known was your first priority time and time again.…

Muslims began arriving to the New World as early as the 15th century during the slave trade. It was estimated that about 14 to 20 percent of enslaved West Africans were Muslims (U.S. State Department, 2010). On the other hand, Muslims‟ voluntary migration to the United State began between late 19th to early 20th century. A number of Middle Eastern countries like Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, and Palestine contributed to such early immigration to the U.S. Since then, Muslim immigration to the country increased particularly in the post-world war II era. Most new Muslim immigrants were college students who came to study at American universities. In the end, the majority of Muslim immigration to the United States has come from Southeast Asia like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. In this respect, 56 percent of U.S. born Muslims described themselves as black, 31 percent white, and 2 percent Asian. On the other hand, about 44 percent of foreign born Muslims identified themselves as white, 28 percent Asian, and 18 percent associated themselves with a mixed or other racial affiliation. Just 10 percent of foreign born Muslims reported that they were black. Likewise, Muslim Americans vary in their ethnic and cultural backgrounds. For instance, 26.2 percent of Muslim Americans described themselves as Middle Eastern Arabs, 24.7 percent South Asians, 23.8 percent African Americans, 10.3 percent Not Arab Middle Eastern, 6.4 percent East Asian, and 11.6 percent associated themselves with other ethnicities. Finally, it is important to understand the difference between Arab and Muslim Americans. Although Arab and Muslim Americans overlap with some Arabs are Muslims, almost two third of Arab Americans are non Muslims and most Muslim Americans are non Arabs . Muslim Americans also belong to various religious traditions in Islam including both Sunnis and Shia (Shiites). Based on a 2006 study by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), about 40…

“If there is one thing I want you learn from our time together, the most important lesson I could ever teach you as your father, is to never give up. When you’re all alone in life and it seems like nothing's going your way, you just need to keep being yourself and keep doing your thing, and people will notice how great you are. In the worst most awful time of your life my best piece of advice to you is just keep going, never give up on yourself and the results will surprise you every time. I guarantee it.” Words like this haven’t been told to me many times in my life. Throughout these first 17 years of my life, ever since my brother and I were young, we haven’t been with our dad constantly, I have lived with my father for probably 40%-30% of…

Everyone comes across a conflict in their life. But only a few come through it. Most of the people just accept their loss too fast and give up as soon as a small conflict comes across their path. But only a few people struggle their way out, and the main character in the movie Bend it Like Beckham is one of them. ”If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins.” This quote by Benjamin Franklin reflects the situation the protagonist in the movie Bend it like Beckham is going through. In the movie Bend it Like Beckham Jess’s external struggle is that, living most of her life in England, she has developed her passion towards soccer and she has fallen in love with the sport so much that she wants to play for England and become a famous soccer superstar just like her role model David Beckham. But reaching her goal and making her dream come true was not as easy as she thought it was. She had to fight her way out of the conflicts she went through. And most importantly she had to stay positive, no matter what happened. This reinforces the movie’s message that happy are those who dream dreams and are willing to pay the price to make them come true.…

My father owned a library, allowing me to read as much as I needed. I helped my father keep the library clean and organized. He flustered me sometimes. He would buy me books but beg me not to read them. He thought of a book to be something that unorganized the mind with all the words one book contained. Though he enjoyed such a thing. Unlike my mother who thought writing was a bore. With my hobby of such things I strongly disagreed with my mother upon the subject. Being that me and my father were closely…

I rushed there because I was worried of him being suicidal. I knew I should not but I started to feel annoyed because he is depressed for the same old reason. I felt he was seeking for attention by making a great deal out of nothing. Few months ago, with few friends we went for a vacation in Bangkok. We were enjoying but Chin was gloomy and made the situation awkward for us. I was so frustrated and when Chin was not around, I blurted out something that he told me not to tell anyone. My father and I spent three hours together that night and that was the longest three hours I had ever experienced in life. He helped me by having me doing many multi-digit division problems and if I made any mistake he would whip the back of my hands with a wooden ruler. I, of course, got countless numbers of whips, especially at the beginning because I did not know how to solve them. I can still recall his out control temperament. He yelled at me and told me how stupid I was continuously. I remember crying nonstop and begging him to stop hitting me. At the end of that three hours I was no longer having any more math problem or any other problems. After that night, I always made sure that my parents would never know any of my problems. I stopped asking my parents for help. That experience has effected the way I feel about my parents. I was not close to my parents before and that experience deteriorated our relationship further. That experience also effects the way I raise my children today. I learn to be more tolerable and…

I paused and looked my father deep into the eyes, and begin by first stating “do you promise not to get mad at me?” I knew I was shaking and my hands began to sweat as he replied with…

My father loves me very much; he has never yelled or scolded to me. When I made mistakes, he always told me with kind and pleasant countenance what I had done wrong and let me know what was right. Once I broke a neighbor's window. Seeing nobody around, I ran away immediately. When Dad came home, he noticed my uneasiness and asked me what had happened. I could only tell him the truth. Rather than scold me, he praised my honesty and then encouraged me to apologize to our neighbor. I learned from this episode that not only does Dad take care of our health but he also teaches us how to be a good man. Whenever I was perplexed by a tough question in my study, I asked my dad, and then he would always explain it to me softly and patiently. And dad always told me to be calm and confident with all problems no matter how big or little they were.…

The first thing that I admire about my dad is his ability to put others before himself. No matter who it is, I have noticed that he will always focus on others before he focuses on himself. On his birthday a couple of years ago we had plans to take him out to dinner and celebrate. Well, he got a call earlier that day from someone that asked if he would be willing to help put up sheetrock. Like my dad normally does, he couldn’t turn down helping someone out. He knows how hard it is to put up sheetrock by yourself, so he canceled the plans that we had for his birthday and went to help this person. That’s how my dad is. He doesn’t care what occasion it is or what is going on. If there is someone who needs help, you can count on my dad being there.…
