Perseverance Is Wrong
We constantly hear stories of the terrible things going on around the world like wars, diseases, and natural disasters. People never believe that their lives are going to be impacted by these events, however, I was wrong. When my father was diagnosed with cancer it completely shook my family. The moment my parents broke the news to me is still crystal clear in my mind. To this day I can't imagine how much courage it took for them to tell me. I was thirteen years old and I was back for spring break from boarding school. My parents sat me down and began to explain the circumstances of my father’s condition. They told me that the doctors were able to catch the cancer at an early stage, but there was no guarantee that my dad was going to make it. …show more content…
When people ask me who my role model is I instantly think of my dad. In my opinion, nobody can compare to my father. While he was fighting cancer, I told myself, “There is no way he is losing this battle, he is too strong.” People constantly told me to expect the worse, however, I knew that he would pull through and beat cancer. My dad had always been there for me while I was growing up, at that moment I knew it was my turn to be there for him.
Perseverance is by far one of my dad’s most admirable qualities. My dad has gone through multiple ups and downs during his life, and he treated cancer as just another curve ball life threw at him. He understood that cancer wasn’t just affecting him, it was affecting my whole family. I always thought of my dad while he was going through treatment, and he was aware of that. Therefore, while I was way at boarding school he called me every night. He always wanted the conversation to be focused on me, he didn’t want me to worry about him. I cannot remember one moment during my father’s fight with cancer where he showed weakness in front of me, he always persevered through the pain and

The term role model generally means any "person who serves as an example, whose behaviour is emulated by others". The individual that I chose from a young age to emulate my behavior off of is Spongebob Squarepants. He is a sponge that lives at the bottom of the ocean in a town called Bikini Bottom, where he works at a local burger restaurant called the Krusty Krab. He’s not my hero in the idea that he lives alone and works in fast food for his entire life but because he is the most loyal and determined individual that I can think of. He taught me that no matter how old you are, to never let go of your inner child.…

There is a lot of pain and struggle in us that we sometimes find hard to deal with. I was a child when I first learned what cancer meant and what it would do to my beautiful, loving and caring grandmother. I was still too young to understand fully, but I knew more or less that she would be leaving us too soon in her time. I saw her struggle with the changes the sickness had done to her body. She was weak and always tired. It hurt me so much to see her in pain and she always tried her very best to not show that she was hurting around us. She would smile and always have words of wisdom. Growing up she was the only person I thought I could tell my secrets to, my grandmother was my best friend. Before she passed I wanted to hold her, be with her and just…

My dad grew up wanting to be a firefighter. Once he grew up, he decided to put that dream into action by actually becoming one. My dad had to work through the many physical and mental challenges and tests in order for him to make his dream come true. However, when he met my mom and they were instantly in love. After they got married, my mom spoke to my dad telling him that if they were going to have a family, my mom wouldn't want to have to worry about his safety, because being a firefighter is very dangerous and stressful on a family. So, my dad decided that being a dad was more important to him. Although it was still hard for him to know that his hard work to become a firefighter was all for nothing. Another example of when my dad had to persevere was when he had a seizure. My dad had 3 seizures and he told me that he felt as if he wasn't in control of his body. He said that knowing he didn’t have control was one of the scariest things he has experienced. He had to work through fears going through his head, but also physically. He had to go through many tests and recovery assignments that required him to persevere physically. Overall, my dad has worked very hard to get to where he is now and that is why he is a great example of showing what perseverance can…

Tears would just roll down my face a lot not because I thought she was going to die, but kind of because I thought she was going to die or subconsciously I thought that. Even though it was miserable and hard I try to look at it with a positive view. Her pain and suffering has inspired me to become a doctor. Each time I went to chemotherapy with her I saw all the little kids with frowns from pain. Hodgkins Lymphoma has helped me to see that my ambition in life is to help people, to help those in pain. I can not in anyway handle being an oncologist, but ten years from now I can see myself being an orthopedist or a general…
