Persef Reflection Immersion

REFLECTION PAPER
As we were walking across the gates of DLSU, I felt uneasy because I didn’t know what to expect from the immersion in barangay 704. The villagers welcomed us when we reached their place. Me and my partner volunteered to be assigned to the Muslim family in the barangay, because we wanted to experience and learn the things they do. When we were walking to their home we saw children playing and the elders smiled at us. Once we reached their home we felt at home because of the feeling of warmth to us. Their home is very small to which, you can only walk two steps. They are six in the family and Nanay Salud (our host parent) is married to a Christian man. She said that it was difficult because she was the only Muslim in the family, her children and husband go to mass separately. While she was away buying food for lunch, we played with the kids and I began to realize that life is simple: be happy and you will be fulfilled. We had fish galungong for lunch which was very good. After eating, we walked around the barangay with our host parent and we saw our fellow block mates with their host families. Then, we stopped at our friend’s host family’s house near our host house. We caught our friends singing karaoke as a result we joined them. But because of the lack of the time our singing was cut short because we had to go back to our meeting place. When we had settled down we began to reflect how their life and our life was different. We also thanked them for their hospitality they have given us. Once we reached DLSU we felt very tired but I said to myself it was worth it because of the lessons I’ve learned during our stay in the barangay, where I can use in my daily life to achieve my goals. Life isn’t all about money, it is about how you live your life with your friends, family and other people. Doing the right things in life instead of the wrong things will help us achieve our desired goals in life.
