It’s a daunting task to pass over the keys to the family car to your newly licensed teen driving. As you encourage them to follow the rules, you hold your breath until you hear them returning to the driveway safely, in one solid piece. Daydreaming of your teen driving on a road full of speeding cars can be a frightening image to forget, but you can equip yourself with the parenting skills that will most likely encourage your new driver to drive safely, and drastically reduce the chances of him being in an automobile accident.…
Parental relationship has deteriorated over time; mother and daughter became closer while the father became more distant from both the mother and daughter. Mother and daughter have become enmeshed and are somewhat estranged from Dad. Dad perceives his relationship to both in a fairly linear way and expresses his love in providing for the family rather than in overt emotional ways. He learned this role from his father. Daughter does some drinking with Mom and also with friends, so further investigation of her drinking behavior is warranted.…
John was born on St. Patrick’s Day in 1942, two years after his older sister, Joanne. John Jr. and his family grew up with an abusive father, John Stanly Gacy (Amirante). He watched his father continuously abuse his mother, Marion Elaine Gacy and two sisters Joanne and Karen. He also got physically abused along with verbally. His father would often tell him that he was a “sissy” or a “mama’s boy” and that he was a failure. Throughout John’s childhood he sought for his father’s approval, but seldom did he get it (Amirante).…
This article takes the very populated views of child abuse and explains the more common ones. It does this through looking through all of the different news stories that report on child abuse and compares them to the government child advocacy reports. In doing this it helps explain the main factor for child abuse. As mentioned earlier many people only think of physical abuse when they think of child abuse. This happens because that is typically the kind of abuse that gets reported on because it is the most noticeable and outrageous. However, the main reason is for neglect and not taking care of all of the child’s needs, mainly food. This article really compares the two and gives a more accurate picture of child…
This argument has been on going for decades or dare I say centuries even. There are articles, quotes, and whole books written on this, an example would be “Spare the rod spoil the child” whose proverbial notion dates back to the King James version of the Bible pre 1377. There are even popular shows on television that highlight this debate. While history seems to be biased toward a firm grip on children, there are those old folk tales about spoiled princes.…
I have experienced many things in my life. All of my life experiences have affected me in different ways. Some experiences were good and some were not. The physical abuse I experienced by my father was the most impactful experience. A parent is supposed to create a safe, stable, and loving home. Instead my father created a home of fear, instability, and inconsistency. This affected my behavior in school, and how I react to things later in life.…
The issue of child abuse relates significantly to race and class because it brings up the following question: “Is it culturally diverse or is it actually abusive?” One of the reasons for such huge number of child abuse cases is because most of those cases are from non white children. America is known for its diversity and even though it is a “free country” America has its own culture which is different from the hispanics, asians, blacks and many others. But, not only race relates to this issues so does class because children who come from low income families seem to be more likely to suffer from abuse. A reason for this is due to the fact that people with a low SES are uneducated and are not aware on how parenting styles can affect a child.…
As a government employee interacting with students, one must report any signs or statements of mental and/or physical abuse on a student. Each educator is trained on how to make reports in order to protect the child from any further punishment. Ignoring and/or lying about a student’s abusement often results in severe professional punishments such as getting a letter in their files or getting released from the district. That decision is also up for an ethical analyzation. The spanish teacher is now thrown into this dilemma on whether to lie about the child’s explanation of his father hitting him with a belt. If she were to use the Justice lens, she would fulfil her lawful duties as a mandated reporter, and she would tell the english teacher…
Every person has had the opportunity to experience childhood whether it was bad or good. For some, childhood may have been awesome without any worries and then there are those whose childhood experience has been nothing but stress and family hardship in which those families ended up turning to public intervention for help. This policy analysis will elaborate on child maltreatment, who is impacted by it, The effect of maltreatment, and how it interacts with other social problems.…
"Nearly five children die every day in America from abuse and neglect," according to Every Child Matters Education Fund (as cited by The National Children's Alliance, 2009). This goes to show that child abuse is a major issue in today’s modern society. In fact, statistics show that there are over 3 million reports of child abuse each year in the United States alone (“National Child Abuse Statistics,” n.d.). While the definition of child abuse and neglect changes from state to state, it is defined by The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) as, at minimum:…

Are you against child abuse or not? According to authorities on child abuse, it’s very rare for people to report about child abuse when they see it like they use to in 1970-1990. Now a day’s people just leave it how it is as long as it’s not there child they really don’t worry about it. Abusing kids for unnecessary reasons and hitting them with objects that may bruise them badly isn’t the way of a parent teaching their kids manners at all. Especially taking your anger out on the child isn’t the way of the parent either, it’s just aggressive abuse.…
It’s important to understand what child abuse and neglect really is and how it occurs. By taking the time to understand why children become abused or neglected we will be able to identify possible solutions in preventing this type of treatment. Also by learning information based around child abuse we will be able to have a better understanding of how people in our society feel about this issue. A few great authors have left us with some powerful quotes based around the topic of child abuse. For example the author Kenny Guinn stated that children deserve our devoted attention, not our divided attention. Quotes like these are very meaningful and powerful because they get people to really look at the different issues involving children. When I hear a quote like this I am drawn to it and need to read it more than once. Every time I read it I think about all sorts of different issues which are great because that is exactly what I think Kenny Guinn wanted us to experience. If I attempt to break this quote down I can determine that Kenny Guinn is using a famous phrase that people often use which is “Give your undivided attention”. Many people will recognize that phrase because the meaning behind it is used in all sorts of situations. People use the phrase undivided attention because it means they want that person to focus on one thing and not a number of things. Kenny Guinn has used a clever method of making us as the readers to really think about his quote and how people should pay close attention to children and their needs. He has made it clear that he believes that people need to devote time and effort to focusing on children and their needs rather than to neglect them. Even though this quote is a sentence long it has the meaning of a whole book. What I mean by this is from this simple quote written by Kenny Guinn you can take so much information and feel his emotion that he has written with to create such as brilliant phrase. He has truly done an excellent job of…
