Perfect practice makes perfect
Perfect practice makes perfect

You and I have heard the expression all our lives "practice makes perfect" and practicing something whether it be the trumpet, a sales skill, a surgical or medical assistant skill or even CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is no different.

However, if we take that time tested truth and polish it up like a brass lamp to update it a few generations to now in the present, can we modify it to say "perfect practice makes perfect opportunity " ? With the advent of new technology, new tools to practice with, and improved skills, we can take once basic skills and use new technology and new approaches to make it better than it ever was before.

For example in CPR, we use CPR mannequins with lights on the shoulder of our "practice" victims, to indicate the proper depth and speed of compressions to make sure our students are getting that "feel" during practice of the proper ratios of depth to speed to make sure even when we practice , we're practicing perfectly designed strokes and muscle memory to maximize their practice time but more importantly, to maximize the skill practice that if our student should be called upon to one day use this life saving skill, she or he will have had perfect practice for this opportunity and not just the motions of what we've heard but what actually works NOW with new technology.

We should still be grateful and thankful for those teaching us CPR skills at any level because as my mother used to say " 2% of something is still better than 0% of nothing ", don't you agree ? Even CPR skills taught to us using basic traditional CPR training equipment is still better than no training at all because both still gives our potential victim a chance at another birthday and that's really all we're trying to do anyway isn't it

The Blackhorse Pike School District offers a lifesaving program for children to aid in saving lives using Automatic External Defibrillators (AED’s). Staff is also provided training in CPR and AED usage. The Blackhorse Pike School District presently provides education for over 4,000 children each school year. This school has been ranked in the top 75 elementary school in New Jersey. This is located in a growing area and expects to have a population increase of about 20 percent in the next 10 or so years. Over the years, children are seen more with asthma, cardiac issues, diabetes, and allergies. This can be life threatening illnesses and we can help these children to live longer, healthier lives with the proper education and equipment. This school district has one AED per building and only those nurses who are trained are allowed to operate them. If a child became unresponsive other staff are most likely not educated and trained on CPR or AED usage. Only teachers, nurses, and coaches are required to be trained in these. With this being said, this program’s purpose is to have all staff trained to save lives. All hallways will have an AED installed and staff will know how to use it as well as be CPR certified. Research shows in the event of a cardiac arrest, the time from witnessed arrest to the delivery of a shock from the AED should be no longer than five minutes for the best outcomes (American Heart, 2010). This has to do with an This is due to the fact that about half of witnessed cardiac arrests are the shockable rhythm of ventricular fibrillation for the first few minutes of arrest. With each hallway having access to an AED, help will be provided to shock within the recommended time frame and increase the number of children who survive a cardiac arrest (American Heart, 2010).…

CPR only requires one or two individuals, but on Grey’s Anatomy they always have large groups of doctors, nurses, and whoever else with them. And, the typical result of a patient is a minute of CPR, shock, coughs, and then wakes up. But, Grey’s Anatomy glamourizes the true act of CPR. The survival rates are lower in real life than through television. Dr. Stamp explains, “This one upsets me the most because when it really happens, it’s not a happy ending. It’s really sad explaining to families that we did CPR but things didn’t work out. Or that not everyone’s heart can be restarted (or should be) with a shock called a defibrillation. The survival for an out of hospital cardiac arrest is around 10%.”…

Markus Zusak’s ‘The Book Thief’ retains a major focus on the power of words throughout the novel. Following young Liesel’s journey, Zusak shows how the words are used to develop an invited reading within this novel and whether they are the printed words on the burnt and stolen books or the spoken words that are voiced by the characters, the power of words has the ability to reveal humans at their best and worst. This is conveyed through Max’s story The Word Shaker, which proves that words were an integral part of Nazi Germany, how Liesel uses words to fight against the fear and oppression caused by Hitler (when she reads during the air raids) and the theft and burning of the books which symbolizes Liesel’s struggle throughout her life in Nazi Germany.…

In the beginning of the novel Huckleberry Finn, Huck was a very immature young boy who did not care about what would happen if he got caught doing something. With having Miss Watson as his caregiver, she tried helping him into the right direction but with Huck’s father Pap, it was a disaster. Once Pap kidnapped Huck, Huck realized he needed to get out quick and once he did he was all by himself. “ I got out amongst the driftwood, and then laid down in bottom of the canoe and let her float” (Twain 35). Huck’s maturity is shown here with confidence because he left his father and he was always afraid to get beaten by Pap. Huck being by himself was the main reason why he matured like he did. Another reason Huck matured through the novel was because of him having Jim as basically his only friend. When Huck says to Tom “Good land! I says, “Why, there ain’t NO necessity for it. And what would you want to saw his leg off for, anyway?” it shows that Huck truly cares about Jim and would care if something happen to him. Another quote that Huck said about Jim was “It hadn’t ever come to me before, what this thing was I was doing. But now it did; and it staid with me, and scorched me more and more. I tried to make out to myself that I warn’t to blame, because I didn’t run Jim off from his rightful owner; but it warn’s no use, conscience up and says, every time, “But you knowed he was running for his freedom, and you could a paddled ashore and told somebody” (Twain 92). What Huck was trying to say was that even though hiding Jim from people was the wrong thing to do he did not care, he cared more about their friendship which shows maturity. Another quote that relates to this is “all right then, I’ll go to hell- I’m not giving up” (Twain 191). Huck says this after he rights a letter to Miss Watson and rips it up.…
