Perfect Bite Experiment
We heard of a theory from a family dentist that your bite could affect your physical performance. We looked more into this theory, got more information and decided to test it out. We came up with the hypothesis that if you have a less than perfect bite, you will not perform as effectively while doing physical activity. We hoped to see if our hypothesis was correct.
Purpose
Most of us can agree that humans are naturally keen on doing things better or more efficiently. This includes physical performance. We all know that professional athletes train many hours each day in order to improve their skill and physical performance. Of course, both being fit and being good at the sport in particular play big roles in an athlete’s ability to perform well, but what if there was another factor? What if your teeth alignment played a big role in how well you perform while doing physical activity? We decided to find out if this is true and whether the kind of bite you have affects your physical strength. This could help people see if they need correction in their teeth alignment in order to ultimately perform to the best of their ability.
Hypothesis
If it’s true that you have a less than perfect bite, you should be able to lift the cord higher (cm) with the cotton rolls.

Both Class 1 and Class 2 experienced an improvement in performance (9.8% and 2.8% respectively) with the cotton rolls. Only one person was sampled from Class 3 and therefore the results of Class 3 were not representative. Although both male and females experienced an increase in performance, the change was greater for males (7% versus 5%). With a sample size of 29, we have a margin of error of 18.6%. Our findings are in line with U.S. research that shows 90% of adolescents and 60% of adults do not have a perfect
