Meeting a monster is one way how Percy is a hero. Percy is in the museum with Mrs.Dodds and she starts saying strange things to Percy. Suddenly, she shifts into a monster. “She wasn’t human. She was a shriveled hag with bat wings and claws and a mouth full of yellow fangs, and she was about to slice me to ribbons.” (Riordan 12) This supports Percy meeting a monster because the quote says Mrs.Dodds was not human. Then, the quote describes Mrs.Dodds with things monsters have like bat wings and yellow

    Percy Jackson has to go through the Road of Trials, The road of trials confronts you with takes or challenges. Percy has to face many characters on his road to fix the gods. Percy fights medusa, cerberus, luke and others to get what he has came for, Poseidon's Bolt. His ability to continually beat and out fight opponents allows the Road of Trials to be noticed and to form. The hero takes him to Saint Louis, Las Vegas and back to NYC where he is met by his father. Saint Louis contains a needed pearl so does Las Vegas. This is called the Night or Sea Journey. The novel guides Percy around the United States so he can accomplish his goal. The Dragon Battle is not literally a dragon with a battle but a battle with a power that is clearly stronger than the hero. In the case of the Lightning Thief, Percy fights a Hades. Hades was the one who took the lightning bolt from poseidon and stirred all this mess. Lastly the Sacred Marriage comes into play.     Despite being disturbed, the Monster in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, was fully aware of his capabilities and his own strength even when ostracised from society. Evidence of this is when Shelley writes “I could, with pleasure, have destroyed the cottage and its inhabitants and glutted myself with their shrieks and misery”. Here, the monster would of indulged himself by murdering the DeLacy family and wouldn’t bare any signs of a guilty conscience. This bares similarity to the story of Prometheus, which was popular in the 1800s, when Frankenstein was first written. Prometheus stole fire from Greek gods to give to man so they could advance in evolution. As punishment for this, he was chained to a mountain and was regularly attacked by animal. He knew that even though the eagle would eat his liver, he was aware of his capabilities and anticipated it would grow back. Furthermore, the phrase, ‘glutted myself’ implies that the monster would of relished seeing the DeLacy family die and scream with horror and pain and presents his disturbed nature perfectly.
