Some psychologists believe people cannot change. However, others believe the events people experience allow them to change. In reality, change is based on the altering of perception. In The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, the viewer's perception of Rosa is altered. When the reader’s perception of a character changes, the character can sometimes be called a dynamic character. Rosa Hubermann becomes a dynamic character when her husband leaves to fight in the war leaving her to take care of their foster daughter. The change in Rosa Hubermann to when she began treating her foster daughter with respect was the result of her husband leaving. Before Hans Hubermann left, Rosa treated Liesel poorly.
