In the greater Baton Rouge area, there are 270 automotive and collision repair businesses. Within three miles from Fisher’s Automotive, where my husband Paul works, there are 40 shops that are providing some of the same services as Fisher’s. Of those 40, 26 perform collision repair. Before I started school, I worked at Fisher’s with Paul. I was a body technician and helped with some of the office duties. Paul is still currently the head painter. The owner, Vic Fisher, has recently seen a decline in business on the collision side. If the business is to remain open, which will allow Paul to keep his job and provide for his family, the staff at Fishers needs to figure out what they can do to bring in more business.…

When coming up with a solution to the problem I checked with the leadership to make sure it was okay to implement my plan. Leadership told me not to over think the problem at hand, just come up with a quick fix to the problem considering we were only here for six months. Producing many ideas helped me have a choice of what I wanted to do. For an individual to come up with more than one idea gives an individual a broader choice, which makes solving a problem a whole lot easier. Being a leader is not hard to do; it’s about coming up with ideas, implementing them and leading from the front with integrity.…

Conflict is an inevitable part of life. It can arise from a failure to achieve a motive or when facing an unfamiliar environment. Conflict is an opportunity to improve. Different individuals will learn to cope with conflict differently; it may seem natural for some to avoid or stand by conflict and let it tear relationships apart, but there are common mechanisms which people can adopt to resolve their problems. Finding similarities and ignoring the differences is one way of coping with unlike individuals, but the fundamental approach to resolving conflict is to accept. The acceptance of individual and cultural differences gives us insight and understanding of the basis of conflict, which also allows for reassessment of moral values. This is how unity can be achieved in the most difficult of all circumstances.…

Many skills that are essential and vital for the future are developed when people encounter conflict. Conflict pushes people to establish and foster the skills needed to manage a variety of different situations. Along the way, people understand that having a non-defensive, composed reaction and facing it head on will calm and resolve a dispute better than an angry, harmful reaction where the people, out of expectation of bad outcomes, avoids the problem at hand. In general, when people encounter any sort of conflict they know, due to past learning experiences, that certain approaches or methods will work and others will no. Understanding how to handle difficult situations and using the skills they have gained, people can learn and grow from encountering…

The creative process uses four steps to solve a problem. They are searching for challenges, identifying the problem, investigating it and finding solutions for the problem. My personal challenge has been with the wiring harness for the glow plug system and starting system on my GM diesel truck. I had to wonder why GM routed the wire harnesses in such a way as to be exposed to the most heat which will eventually destroy the wires and their protective covering. Since I am in the process of installing a rebuilt engine in the truck I decided to see if I could repair the wiring harnesses and if there was a possible better way to route them. So I could alleviate the electrical problems I have had with this truck specific to this area. I have had other problems with this truck that I have done upgrades on or improvements which turned out very well so I felt confident I could solve and improve on what GM did.…

I find that I am overly inclined towards cause-effect loop in dealing with complex situations.
