How to become a peer mentor volunteer We take on new peer mentor volunteers twice a year, so if you’re interested in joining the programme, ask one of our team to give you an application pack.

You’ll need to fill out an application form, have a CRB check, and an interview. Having convictions may not prevent you from becoming a peer mentor volunteer; in fact, your experience may be helpful to others.
We ask that our peer mentor volunteers consider themselves to be currently stable and in recovery from substance misuse.

One day a week to volunteer with BSDAS?
What does a peer mentor volunteer do? Meet and greet service users at any site
Good communication skills?
A willingness and enthusiasm to mentor peers?
Experience as a BSDAS service user within the last five years?
Flexibility?
BSDAS recognise the value of talking to someone who is a bit further ahead on their journey of recovery. Our peer mentor volunteers know how it feels to live needing drink or drugs; to be on a script; to detox; go to rehab or a dry house; and how to be in recovery.
