My proposed site is Pediatrics of Dallas, more specifically I will be abiding by the Pediatrician themselves. How they operate in their work environment, the words they use, and what procedures that are all important in their businesses. Due to protecting the privacy of their patients I’m only allowed in the room when the doctor is diagnosing the patient, if they were to speak about any personal matters that is only at the prudence of the parents, and doctor, unless given permission from the legal guardian. I was a patient to this clinic, I’m only familiar to what the nurses do, as far as what the pediatricians themselves do outside of the patient rooms, and where the workstation is at, I have no knowledge of that, this considers me an insider/outsider.…
As firefighters, we are required to obtain an EMTS certification during the course of our training. As part of this training we learn to determine heart rate, blood pressure and drug dosages which all use different math calculations. This is a very important part of saving lives and has to be done as precise as possible. Any error in a medical calculation can be extremely dangerous for person in need of help. On a lighter note, mathematics is even used when we are cooking dinner in the fire house. We measure out water, flour, sugar, etc. to prepare our meals together.…

A pediatric pulmonologist assist in the care of children with respiratory problems. They help diagnose and manage lung diseases such as asthma, bronchiecstasies, pneumonia, and chronic bronchitis ”what does a pediatric pulmonologist do”. Pediatric pulmonologist developed in North America, beginning in the 20th century. What sparked the beginning of this was when a history of lung diseases affected children "pediatric pulmonology". In the mid 1940s the study of tuberculosis was the rudimentary beginning of one branch of pediatric pulmonology, pediatric pulmonology became an increasingly important area in 1982. R.B. Mellins was the first pediatric pulmonologist to serve as the president of the American Thoracic Society…
Donating money or time to charity is a good way to help ourselves feel better by improving the quality of life for other people. One of my favorite charities is The Shriners Hospital for children. They are a charitable organization, and their 22 hospitals are completely free to patients. According to their website, their vision is to “Become the best at transforming children’s lives by providing exceptional healthcare through innovative research, in a patient and family centered environment.” They are dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in need through medical and financial backing (Shriners Hospitals for Children).…
The uses of POP have only grown with time. It began as a method to immobilise and reductions in the managing of adult and pediatric fractures, for which it is still being used today. The managing of low energy fractures of the humerus and tibia is possible without functional compromise with a POP cast. In Pediatric orthopedics POP has transformed the managing of club foot. What was once considered a surgically curable condition is now managed by serial casting. Plaster has also been used to treat fracture and deformities in spine. Plaster of Paris is used in postoperative immobilization and also in the managing of some amputees. Casting over stumps has allowed fast rehabilitation using prosthesis. It has also been used in the managing of neuropathic…
Alfred deLorimier grew up in San Francisco, attended the University of California,Berkeley for undergraduate studies, and later UCSF for medical school. He decided to be a general surgeon and stayed on the train at UCSF at the time when there was no real subspecialty of pediatric surgery in California.Towards the end of his training in General surgery he became interested in the surgery of children. He was determined to become a surgeon so he signed up to spend two years learning the intricacies of children’s surgery at Ohio State University’s Columbus Children's Hospital. He went through a very demanding program with Dr. Eric Fonkalsrud. When they both returned to California they were the first fellowship-trained pediatric surgeons, they established…

But, the average salary is about $249,000 per year. Depending on different surgeon’s job and area of study, they can either make more of less money. Employment for surgeons is expected to grow 18% from 2012-2022, faster than the average for all occupations. Job growth will occur because of the continued expansion of healthcare-related industries. The growing and ageing population is expected to drive the overall growth in the demand for surgical…
The main sources of pediatric primary care in the United States are office-based primary care providers and pediatrician offices. Primary care entails offices that usually do not only see pediatric patients, but also adult patients so the focus is not primarily on the pediatric patient. There seems to be a lack of quality preventative care services for children that ultimately can lead to long term consequences on the child's health. Not only are there not enough sources for pediatric primary care, there is also a lack of training of pediatric health care providers in the development surveillance and in emotional and behavioral problems that affect the pediatric population that can lead to inconsistent quality of preventive care for the patient (Dunn,…
My ideal job is being a pediatrician. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, “General pediatricians provide care for infants, children, teenagers, and young adults. They specialize in diagnosing and treating problems specific to younger people. Most pediatricians treat common illnesses, minor injuries, and infectious diseases, and administer vaccinations. Some pediatricians specialize in pediatric surgery or serious medical conditions that commonly affect younger patients, such as autoimmune disorders or chronic ailments”. All my life, I have always dreamed of becoming a doctor. I decided to major in the medical field when I was in 5th grade; at first I wanted to be a pediatrician, but now I want to have a degree in tropical medicine…
After reviewing the power point slides and reading over the material in the textbooks, I have learned that there is a tremendous amount of information to take in with learning medical terminology and math conversions. As far as medical terminology, I see how useful it is to recognize the prefixes, suffixes, word roots, and combining forms. Recognizing these basic word structures helps to gain a better understanding on how to exactly understand the rules and combine word parts in order to write medical terms in their correct form. I believe that this is an important foundation because it will help you to perform your job as far as being able to identify medical conditions, surgical procedures, symptoms, and diagnoses. The basic math conversions really tests your basic math skills. Using your basic knowledge of multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals, changing percentages to fractions, knowing how to use conversions within the metric system, and understanding roman numerals play an important role in building the skill sets needed to understand the systems used for drug administration and temperature conversions.…
The preoperative phase begins when the decision for surgery is made and ends when the patient is transferred to the operating room table. The preoperative evaluation and teaching typically takes place several days before surgery in an outpatient setting. Today, most perioperative patients are admitted to the hospital the morning of their surgical procedure. However, there are times when the preoperative phase will begin on the medical-surgical units or in the emergency department. The first step of the preoperative phases begins with a patient and chart assessment on all patients scheduled for an operative and/or invasive procedure prior to transportation to the Surgical Suites. This ensures…
