Pediatric oncologist treats cancer in children because some types of cancer can occur most often in children and teenagers such as certain brain tumors and leukemia. Hematologist-oncologist diagnoses and treats blood cancer, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. Medical Oncologist are doctors who coordinates and oversees patient’s medical care. In an interview on Working Nurses by Keith Carlson she interviewed a Pediatric Oncologist named Shannon Martin, Shannon a RN, explains how “some challenges of working on this area is hard and how the nurses do it when a patient dies.” As Shannon states that “Pediatric oncology involves a great deal of patient and family education for example leukemia is approximately 85 percent curable with a three year process of taking medications. She also states that they deal with children and it's more often fun to take on the challenge, especially with teenagers. She says this because mostly childrens dont know what their nurses say but when it comes with teenagers their more fun because they actually have a conversation about their lives and friends they have or have had. As an Oncologist there are many sad times in this field such like telling people that their loved one is diagnosed with an untreatable cancer. At the other hand oncologist can also save lives.
