Pedagogue of Freedom
Filipinos, we can compete globally, internationally, and universally. We have great engineers, doctors, lawyers, teachers and other professionals. But where are those Filipino people right now? Are there hearts and minds are in the Philippines? I hope so. They were born and raised and study here in the Philippines but they use this country to be their practice ground only and after their graduation they will migrate and work in the country they want to. After that they will come back here and almost dying without saying “thank you’ or any contribution. The most pungent question they will ask is “what kind of government does the Philippines have?’. It’s just the same with what kind of people does the Philippines have.
- Well, it’s a stupid but full of truths from that question.

Is the Philippines poor? No we’re not! There are too many corrupt politicians already died, dying and living. Some of them belong to the Richest Man in the Philippines because their corruption from the bushel of money of the Filipino people. Imagine, they are rich and there are thousands of them inside of our government. How big is that money if we will add it all? Billions or Trillions? See, we are not poor. Because of these shameful things that they are doing in our country we are facing poverty, uncontrolled population, high rate of unemployment and illiterate, prostitution, traffic, and lot more. If our patriotic ancestors have their place by their time in our country we are not in this situation today and I’m not standing here in front of you at my position and saying these things to you. Controversial fund scam, unexplained wealth, graft and corruption are some of the main reasons why we are asking this question to ourselves. Here are some of the scams; The Mayor of Manila, Jose Marcelo Ejercito guilty of PHP545 million jueteng case (2000). Ophelia Agawin was among the officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA) charged with graft in July 2004 for the alleged juggling of funds and overpricing in the purchase of P432-million worth of fertilizers. Under the administration of PGMA the $503-million North Luzon Railways (Northrail) project (2005). The former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo involved with the botched $329 million national broadband network (NBN) project (July 2008). The helicopters of FG Mike Arroyo were sold in PNP and worth P105 million (2009). The Impeachment Trial of Renato Corona for his undeclared SALN (May 2012). PAGCOR officials were charged plunder for the alleged misappropriation of P186 million and coffee costs of millions (2012). The 10Billion Pork Barrel Scam (today). Amazing! See, we have money and there are unnumbered scams and yet it’s still unfold today. What if at least 50% of this corruption was placed in Depart of Education so that there too many out of school youth to be enrolled, more classrooms, teachers, schools but why is this happening because we are under by their power, we are gullible and it is the fault of Filipinos, it’s our fault. They will not be in that position if we did not vote or if we fight for their kingdom of corruption.

Today, the Philippine economy continued to register robust growth with the first quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increasing at 7.8 percent. And we are asking where that good news is? Well think about it. That economic growth won’t affect the life of the people under the bridge, beside the railways, beside the river, informal settlers. Simply because Henry Sy, Lucio Tan, Andrew Tan, Enrique Razon, and Gokongwei are some of the richest persons in the Philippines. The 7.8 percent good news in GDP is additional advantage for them in their monopolies and again we are under in their monopolies.

There is no year that the Philippine’ rice price gets higher or we need to import some rice from Vietnam, Thailand and other countries just to have rice. Where are the agricultural lands of the Philippines? Well, migrated to other countries and nationalities, like Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Americans, and other nationalities that are staying in our country to buy land, subdivisions, condos, and other residential firms and these lands are rice fields before. Just imagine the demolition era we are experiencing today we are Filipinos, we have the right in the constitution of the Republic of the Philippines in Article IV states that we are Filipinos and those informal settlers are Filipinos they have the right to deprived of life, liberty or property here in the Philippines which states in Article III Section I. See, they are almost 544, 609 families who are Filipinos by blood, culture, and true Filipinos but they are informal settlers in our own country.

We, the future teachers have the big role in our government, education, and can change the life of the Filipinos by educating them which we know and truly right. Thorough our votes, discipline, and education these are equal to the necessities of Filipino which are clothes, shelter and food we can give it to them through this and we can correct what is wrong. Don’t wait for the government if we know we can do something for a change, if we can fight against any inhuman, we hold the future of our nation. Don’t be dazzled by the money or salary outside of our country. The dilemma of this poverty and all this problems can be solved, opt or lessen through our change. Discerning for a brighter future can lead us to the path we are aiming, a path that everyone’s dreaming. A path that can make our way for the OFW’s to come home, to lessen the poverty, uncontrolled population, high rate of unemployment and illiterate, prostitution, traffic, and lot more. The only people can change this, are the Filipino people only; we don’t need foreign investors if the Filipino people will invest here in our country; We don’t need to ask the help of Japan anymore for building multi-role response vessels and advanced communication system, we can hardly fight for our territory and never be ignominious by other country, and don’t need a big help from the hand of Uncle Sam. We, Filipino people hold our own future. We can stand, we can fight, we can change because we are the pedagogue of freedom and yes we can. “My friends do not forget that your readiness to suffer will light the torch of freedom which can never be put out. Do not forget that we who are now in the middle of our years must inspire the youth when they are almost in the brink of despair. Do not forget that the purpose of life is precisely reexamining our being, not merely a floating flotsam in the time, in the floods of time. Do not forget, as Longfellow said that we should never be like driven cattle, but be a hero in the strife.’ by Benigno Aquino Jr. “The Filipino is worth dying for’ – Ninoy Aquino Jr. the President of the Philippines that we have but never had.

Erin Gruwell, first time teacher was assigned to an inner-city high school which had just embarked in the integration system. The students in her English class were pushed through the school system without being expected to learn, with the assumption that they are incapable of learning. She struggles to connect with her students, to make them believe that they can succeed, and to show them that their lives is valuable, all while attempting to unite them and to overcome to racial segregation and gang violence that is part of their daily lives. The movie portrays many of the topics expressed in the chapter. Critical theory, is an activist approach to understanding and attempting to change the social inequalities that exist. Critical theorists don't fear getting their hands dirty, much like Erin Gruwell in the movie, Freedom Writers. Based on a true story, the movie shows as she attempts to inspire these students who have been labeled “at-risk.” These students come from diverse ethnic backgrounds but all have one thing in common, the educational inequality and discrimination they are subjected to in this high school. Miss Gruwell inspires and empowers this group of students disproving the stereotypes by taking the need for change into her own hands. She sacrifices everything, such as her marriage, to give these students a chance, she changes the way they view the world so that they themselves may be able to make remarkable impact on the world. Making reference to Paulo Freire's theories of oppression in education, these students are educated under the "banking method" of education in which they are treated as blank slates to be fed information to and expected to swallow it, but not possessing any knowledge or experiences of their own to contribute. The students backgrounds and history was not allowed to be expressed and any racial pride was discouraged. The students were tolerated by the teachers and the teachers were tolerated by the…

The need for freedom does not require much explanation. Freedom is one of humankind’s “Inalienable rights.”It may be one of the more difficult of the basic needs for student to meet in school, but if we hope to help students become responsible members of a democratic society, then it is important that we allow them to experience freedom in their formative years. When we talk about freedom, we are not saying that students have license ( freedom without responsibility) to do or say anything they want. But there are specific strategies that can provide students with dozens of ways of meeting their freedom in responsible ways. In other words it is better to allow your student to experience their freedom and to be a responsible member in the same time through different practices. The need for freedom can be divided into two major types: freedom to and freedom from.…

Poverty in the Philippines is most acute and widespread in rural areas. Although Manila certainly has its share of urban poor, the National Capital Region has the lowest poverty incidence in the country. Nationwide, one can compare the 1997 poverty incidence rates of 21.5% in urban areas to the 50.7% rate in rural areas. The rural poor tend to be self-employed, primarily in agriculture or casual labor. They are almost all landless.…

The Philippines our country, the home of the Filipinos and the so called ‘Pinoy’ me and you are all this so called ‘Pinoy’. Well every Filipinos have their own rights and their own freewill to vote for their desired leader. And every candidate have their own reasons and their own platforms. We don’t know what are these reasons, but we know their platforms and this is the bad side of not knowing our own candidates in and out. We all know their platforms and their so called “plans for our community/country” but we don’t know what are the reason why they are running for the position in governing our country. For some they say that some political candidates are just in for the money and power but some candidates refuse to accept or just to say what is the truth behind their candidacy. The Philippines has history of poor and really bad reputation when the word “Election” comes in every 6 years. We had a wide history of corruption ,scandal ,injustice when the Election comes we don’t know how to solve this rotting and unjust system for almost 60+ years and now with all the advance and sophisticated technology the stench of the rottenness is still crippling the wish of millions and millions of Filipinos who just want an honest and truthful Elections. But no we still cannot get this wish why? Because of those who are in the power right now with their money and wealth in disposal, While we cannot do anything but to vote for nothing why. Why nothing? If they win are we sure that they will do the platforms that they promised among millions of Filipinos who is starving and dying and working their asses off just to eat one time in a day. I am not blaming the government but the evidence is there its in our face already why are those in power only have the capability of becoming wealthy meanwhile the one who bought them in their positions right now is the one who is suffering from hunger…

There is no shortage of Filipinos who are ready to pitch in, and this is the source of the change we now experience. The strategy maximizes opportunities for all, especially for those most in need. We are not content to wait for the trickle-down effect; we cannot leave their fate—their receiving the benefits of progress—to chance. What we call inclusive growth—this all-encompassing progress—is the principle that drives every initiative, every action, and every decision of your government. The only ones who will be left behind are those who chose not to venture onwards with us, simply because they did not seize the opportunity.…

It has been a politically perceived issue that there is over population in the Philippines. This issue has been constantly blamed for the aggravating poverty situation. One side is claiming that unbridled population increase is putting so much strain on the financial and food resources of the country that more and more Filipinos are no longer eating three square meals a day. Economic rating system is also stating a poor Filipino family is earning just below $1 per day. This certainly can hardly feed a family of 4 or more. On the other side, it is claimed that the cause of poverty is government corruption. They rightfully claim that while it’s true that the poor are constantly increasing, and that the income gap between them and the next economic level is likewise widening, financial resources that are intended to support the poor are being pocketed by corrupt government officials. Population is not the cause of poverty, corruption is, the Catholic Church claims. The government is keen on crafting remedies to curb population. Several laws have been passed to curb corruption. But since they lack heavy punitive measures,…

The top 3 problems of the Philippines is, one, poverty. Poverty is common in our country. We are doom of poverty because there are many poor families and we have slow progress in our economy. Yes, we have government to help us and the poor people and families out there but there are so many of them because we have high levels of population growth and slow developing agriculture sector. These are one of the causes of the poverty. We are known as one of the poor countries in the world because of poverty. We consider this a major problem and belong to the top 3 because of it is the main reason why we have slow economic progress. Two, corruption is one of the top 3 problems in the Philippines. Why? We consider this as one of the top 3 problems in the Philippines because our government is stealing the money of the people. They used their power in their throne so that they can corrupt the money of the Filipino people. The tax that we paid is the one who they stole from us. A good example for that is the PDAF. Napoles, we all know her, who stole millions of pesos just to have a good life. She stole that money from the taxes that we paid. Another example is the government who we think he will build a project because we pay taxes but they just pay the half of the project and the other half is for them. Government and those who are in charge of the taxes should be responsible of the taxes that the Filipino people pays. They should not corrupt because it is the people’s money. It is the country’s money. We need it for building projects. If there are no corruption, the economic progress of the country will be fast, not slow. Because of the corruption, it makes the progress slow. Corruption also is the cause why we have poverty. Like I said, it is stealing money. If we don’t steal money, there shouldn’t be poverty because the government will build projects for economic growth. Corruption starts in house or school where in in the school, if you cheat in the exam, you have…

    3. Governance concern – one of the main reasons of poverty in the Philippines is the activities of the corrupt government officials. They are using the money of the people to achieve the power and authority that they wanted to have and once they have it they will automatically take advantage of their power to the point that they will neglect the yoke of the people and set aside their promises when they are just campaigning and try to convince the people to vote for them.…

Specifically, the Philippines was found to have one of the highest poverty incidence rates in Southeast Asia pegged at 15.5% with poor people living at less than one (1) U.S. Dollar a day or at Php 32.00 a day, which percentage is lower than Laos (39%) and Cambodia (34.1%) but higher than Vietnam (13.1%) and Indonesia (7.5 %). In other words, in the year 2004 around 40% of Filipinos were poor. That's 40% of approximately 80 million Filipino individuals, or thirty two million (32,000,000) people.
