Peaceful Resistance To Government
Resistance is a very misleading word when related back to the people and the United States government and can be the focal point in what makes or breaks our current society. Resistance can be demonstrated in all types of ways such as The Boston Massacre in a cruel and gruesome battle, or Rosa Parks rather peaceful incident of the bus boycott back in 1955. Both forms of resistance but the specifics in how each of these took place is crucial to the argument debating whether peaceful resistance can be progressive for our government and the answer to whether I lie in agreement with this question would be yes, i strongly believe that peaceful protest or resistant is the answer to a healthy and functional United States. In 1978, the referred to “Tree Sitters of Pureora” attempted to stop deforestation in the Pureora forest located in New Zealand. The people chose to build tree houses among the platforms of the forest and refused to leave. They were rewarded for their peaceful effort with a compromise among the opposers and the government then agreed to stop all logging operations in the area. In 1930, Gandhi and a group of handpicked members marched to Dandi simply to arrive and pick up salt. During this time period, salt production was dominated by the British government and this non violent gesture was the invitation to the independent movement of India. Peaceful protest has demonstrated success on several occasions. Violent protest though also has shown to be effective at times, is rarely successful because the government will not give into certain behavior that just condones giving a crying toddler candy. In scenarios, we can relate the government to a parent and we the people as its children. It is common sense that children who throw a tantrum are less likely to achieve desired wishes over a child who is patient and appropriately vocalizes, just the way we should with our
