Peaceful resistance to laws can help a free society and cause little to no harm if a group or individual feels as if their civil liberties have been violated or infringed upon. Martin Luther King Jr. displayed class while also being in the public eye as a protester. The key word within the essential question is peaceful. Peaceful means to be done without violence or harm to anybody or anything, nor to cause a disturbance. Many protesting citizens and even non-citizens of today's generation of people both young and old, believe or have assumed their minds to think that the only way to overturn something they are not in favor of is to act out in violent manners in order to display what they may think is power to the people. Peaceful protest can bring a positive impact to a maybe even more hostile situation. Not caring what others think of your opinion is a key factor in peaceful protest to keep your group(s) labeled as a positive impact on the surrounding society. Stand up for what you believe in, but do so in a manner that will not harshly change your label to something with a negative light shined upon it. Now peaceful is a word that can obviously be interpreted in a multitude of different ways, but the main goal of peaceful protest is to bring a positive impact within a society to open up to a possibly new idea, or even a new method on how to get something accomplished. These new age protesters claim to be peaceful, yet here they come down the street screaming, hollering, and chanting death threats and racial slurs as if nobody is around to listen. That is a lack of respect and peaceful protesting does not do anything that requires it to lose respect. A peaceful protester will find or offer a new way to do a task while a new generation protester will whine and cry about how your opinion is rude, inconsiderate, and
