PCCW Ltd.

Introduction:

PCCW Ltd. is a public limited multinational Hong Kong based information and communications technology company, established in 2000. Founded by Richard Li in 1993, it was known as “Pacific Century Regional Developments Limited” until 1999 when it changed its name to “Pacific Century CyberWorks”, then again when it merged with “Cable & Wireless HKT Limited” to PCCW Limited.

The company is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (SEHK: 0008) since 1994 and its shares are also traded on the OTC Pink market in the United Sates of America. PCCW is the only telecom company in Hong Kong to hold mobile and television broadcasting rights. Through its subsidiaries, such as “Now TV” and “UK Broadband Group”, it provides services all over the world, such as landline, broadband Internet, mobile and cable television. It is the market leader of telecommunication enterprises in Hong Kong and a strong competitor in other regions, such as the Americas, the Middle East and Europe.

1. SWOT Analysis:

a) Strengths:

i. PCCW has clearly stated their objectives and aims. This helps their employees focus their tasks and reassures their stakeholders of their intentions. ii. Market leader in Hong Kong and strong competitor worldwide providing services in over 80 countries iii. Provides a wide variety of services and goods that are becoming more and more essential to the everyday consumer. iv. PCCW benefits from economies of scales, lowering their average variable costs.
v. Has access to substantial capital sources thanks to the ease of buying and selling shares. vi. The Brand name attracts and reassures consumers. vii. Established network of sales and production. viii. The business’ strategies allow for multiple level market entry.

b) Weaknesses:
