“What Patriotism Means to Me”
Patriotism n.: devoted love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty. When I see the American flag, I feel devotion. When it’s Veterans Day, and we’re honoring those who have served our country, I feel pride. To me, patriotism is when I stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance, when I used to draw the American Flag. Whenever I feel pride for my country. Now, I have been to many countries. I love them all. I’m proud of them. Patriotism just doesn’t stand for the United States, it stands for all countries. I was born of two parents not of the same race. My mom is Filipino and my dad is South Korean, I was raised here. I love the Philippines, South Korea, and United States. I feel pride in their accomplishments. My parents would tell me stories about the Philippines and South Korea as well. On how the Philippines won it’s freedom from Spain. The Korean War. I feel proud of my parent’s country. Just like patriotism. In communist counties, some people still love their country, even if it’s doing terrible things. Take North Korea, they think their country is the best. They feel patriotism. Are you not proud when you learn about how America got freedom? Or when one of your family members who was a veteran come home? Do you not yell frequently ‘America is the best’? I didn’t grow up here when I little, but I am very proud of America. A world power. It started at thirteen colonies which turned to fifty states. It reaches from the East to the West. Patriotism come from the word patriot. A patriot is a person who loves and defends their country. A Person. It’s individual. One person’s definition of patriotism might be different from another. But their all the same in the end. They love their country for what it is. Even if it might be in bad times, good times, as long as they support their country, it is what you call patriotism.
