Patrick Henry Persuasive Speech
Warm hues of cotton candy pink, mixed with lemon drop yellow, and a creamsicle orange paint the sky, forming the warm hues of summer. As two gentlemen ascend the the stairs, and each creak tells the story of the storms which have shaken the strong foundations of the town’s only General Store. On the porch they walk to the old oak rocking chairs, and begin to discuss the recent political events and opinions of the well known Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry.

A: Good Morning Sir
B: Good Morning, I recently heard the speech made by Patrick Henry, have you heard of his glorious propositions?
A: Sir, I would hardly call his outrageous ideas to go to war with our Motherland glorious. Why fight in a war, when instead we could simply separate, as

For all that England has done to us, we are not mere puppets in the hands of Britain. For when do you think the battle will start. Do you not believe the Declaration of Independence will cause a war in itself? In reality, the war has already started, what else would you call the shackles that have been placed upon?
A: Aye, Sir, that is where you are wrong, although Britain has sinned against us, and King George III is a tyrant, simply declaring our freedom is the solution. If we go to war, it will be a short war in which we will die, and a dead man can not fight for his so called “freedom”. You would rather die than live this life which we are our own nation, then you hold the wrong beliefs.
B: There is one idea that you are correct about, and it is that Britain has done wrong against us for ten years. When does it become too much for us to handle? When do we become another territory that does the work the King wishes upon no “fine englishman”? When will this happen? Now. Now is the time to fight. Now is the time for us to join together as one nation and fight our oppressors. Many of us left England due to oppression, and they brought it to us in another country. I beseech you Sir, consider my words, let them empower you to join the true fight for

War never truly has one person or side at fault; each front brings something to the table. Nevertheless, the American Revolution is a conflict that raises major debate over who to blame. The American colonies were at a standstill. How could a new nation grow with such a controlling mother country always on its back? As a result of the French Indian War, the British had to pay for their colonies war debts. For England to pay for these debts, Parliament imposed multiple harsh taxes and acts on colonists. Millions of British pounds used to fund the war were expected to be returned to Great Britain. Why does a British colony have to pay England for a war that the British were fighting in the first place? After some consideration, the American Revolution was thus a product of British oppression; limiting the New World’s settlers socially and economically, keeping their freedom on an unnecessarily shortened leash.…

Summary: I am an English politician, spokesman, and journalist of radical discontent. I am pro-Americanism and pro-separation from England. I firmly believe and support religious tolerance, freedom of the press, and Parliamentary reform. I inspire American Whigs and other colonists with my attacks on King George III and the British government and by defending the liberties of Englishmen. Some call me the champion of the powerless against the privileged. Once the American colonists declared their independence, my support for them decreased and I slowly became a more conservative politician.…

Colonists need to obtain independence immediately to break away from England and overcome the dictatorship of its monarchal government! “A government of our own is our natural right: Ye that oppose independence now, ye know not what ye do; ye are opening a door to eternal tyranny, by keeping vacant the seat of government.” The internal invasion of England is depriving three million people of their rights, liberties, and pursuit of happiness. An invasion occurs not just through violent insurgencies, but through the tolerances of human injustice, degradation of humanity, and abuse of power by England’s own citizens who conceal themselves behind a monarchal government. These subtle approaches to invade a country are more powerful because the acts are…

These opinions expressed so far would be very unpopular. Arguing against war with Britain, and war in general would not be looked upon kindly. I would be insulted, looked down upon, and maybe even attacked. This is another reason I wouldn’t want to live in this period. Hamilton himself debates aggressively against a colonist arguing against war in the scene/song Farmer Refuted. I don’t see why I would want to live in a time where my opinions would be so disvalued.…
