Patient Rehabilitation Case Study
My name is Marcus Molyneux, I am a Physical Therapist at Ascend Rehabilitation writing with much concern of Max who is a 21 year old patient of mine. Max has recently suffered from an incomplete T12 spinal cord injury due to a motor vehicle accident. Before the accident Max was involved in school and was pursuing a B.S. in Finance while also being a star quarterback, and an excellent cross country runner at Hill Valley University. Max had also participated in clubs that dealt with the methods and importance of environmental conservation, and helping members of his community that suffered from food insecurity. His current treatment plan involves exercises that focus on increasing the stability and strength of the muscles from the hips down. As of now Max can only stand for a few minutes, while also progressively walking further with the use of a walker.

With the use of an exoskeleton my patient will avoid a sedentary lifestyle which also avoids many short-term and long-term ailments ranging from bed sores to cardiovascular disease. As well as decreasing his chances of developing physical sickness, the exoskeleton will also make him less vulnerable to mental illness such as depression. A case study done by International Spinal Cord Society & Krakow (2016) concluded, treatment of a patient with a spinal cord injury (SCI) using the ReWalk robotic exoskeleton system gives evidence of a positive impact on quality of life, ability to walk, cardiovascular endurance and motor neurological
