Patient Information Leaflets:
This leaflet is written by the manufacturing pharmaceutical companies and it important that all licensed products have leaflets available.
This leaflet contains information about the product including information regarding side effects, medical conditions, allergies and interactions, doses and other information about the product.

BNF and BNF for Children - British National Formulary: it is a published twice a year in March and by a joint publication with the British Medical Association and Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
It has details of up to date information of the medicines and their uses such as selection, prescribing,

They are also able to take further training to be able to specialise and prescribe medicines.
The references of choice for this particular inquiry was firstly to check the Patients Information Leaflet within the product box which is able to provide the patient or carer with vital information about the product in terms of what it is for, how it is to be used and also other information such as ingredients, side effects, interactions, storage conditions and and warnings.

As the query was to determine the flavour of the medicines, this could give details of the ingredients within the medicine required for the patient. This could help determine if it was suitable and in terms of interactions and allergies as well.

The flavour requested was for strawberry and from referring to the Patient Information Leaflet was able to determine that the medicines flavour was blackcurrant. Although from looking through the Patient Information Leaflet for this information another issue became apparent which was important to resolve, as it stated that the product was 'NOT SUITABLE FOR

In this case it was important to check with the pharmacist who had requested and clinically checked the prescription, as the pharmacist was a specialist in this area and the ward pharmacist.

Also if there was an issue with the medicine for the patient and an alteration had to be made, then the pharmacist who initially clinically checked it would be to be referred for this process. This is due to the pharmacist being aware of the patients history from the patients drug history report and being aware of any important information, such as allergies and adverse drug reactions with various medicines prescribed.

Then following a discussion with the pharmacist and also referring to the BNF for children the pharmacist was able to confirm that the medicines could be taken by the patient without any consequences of adverse drug reactions or
