What is a Pathological Liar?
We have all told lies in our lives, some more than others. Whether it was an excuse to cover up why you were late for work, or lying to your mom about how good her dinner was, et cetera. It’s human nature to tell the occasional lie; however, the defining difference between a regular person telling simple lies, and a Pathological Liar is as follows.
Basic liars have a motivation for their lies. Their lying is premeditated and they only lie occasionally when they see it fit and beneficial to them or the situation. Pathological Liars, on the other hand, lie impulsively with not much thought or reason behind it. They lie constantly and compulsively. The key difference being that they have little or no external motivation for their lies. They do it just because. In addition, they are addicted to lying and can't stop themselves from doing so. Although not officially considered to be a mental disorder, Pathological lying is often a result of deeper psychological problems.
What causes one to become a Pathological Liar?

However, tackling it head on can sometimes work. If you constantly call them out on their lies, they will feel cornered and sometimes admit to their lies. In addition, therapy can be very helpful and can sometimes heal the problem. However, the only way for therapy to actually work is if the liar is willing to work on the problem. They have to be aware enough of the dangers of their lying and have a strong enough desire to want to change their behavior. They therefore are able to be honest with the therapist who is willing to help them. If they don’t have any interest in changing then therapy won't be of any help at
