Pastor Rick Warren
Ch. 6 Where Do You Stand?
1. What effect might farm programs have on rural residents who are not farmers?
a. I don’t think small farms deserve more or less when it comes to collecting subsidies. Of course larger farmers are going to receive more. They produce more product therefore they’re at a higher risk. It is a shame that small farms don’t feel they receive enough but in reality, the larger the farm, the more they produce. Organic foods, Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, etc… are always going to be at a high demand. With that being said, larger farms who produce more should receive a higher pay out.
2. How easy do you think it is for farmers to buy health insurance—and what effect might that have on their income?
a. To be honest, I don’t really know. I don’t really know how one is analyzed when qualifying for health insurance. If I had to take a guess, I would say a little difficult. But if the farmers were backed by the government, then obviously it would be easy. As for their income, who knows? Depends on how many family member the farmer has on the insurance. Depends on what type of coverage the farmer chooses to get.
Ch. 7
1. Pastor Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life, accepts that homosexuality is a sin, but he also emphasizes his beliefs in God’s love for all people. Why might some members of the religious right reject Warren’s Formula?
a. I feel that everyone has their own opinion when it comes to beliefs in religion and God, even within the same religion. It sounds like Warren is just going by what the bible tells him. And he’s simply stating on what he believes. Some member may reject him because maybe they don’t understand him. Maybe they were raised practicing a different religion.
2. American-style culture conservatism is not popular in much of Europe. Many of these nations are also facing declines in their populations. Some conservatives would argue that these facts connected. Is this argument reasonable?
a. In a sense, these

Table 1 was information found when the CTSIP asked people from different income groups whether they had health care coverage. As income increases, the likelihood of not having health care coverage decreases. Those with an income of $15,000 or less had a percentage of 29.7% reporting no health care coverage. It is slightly higher than this for the $15,000 to $25,000 range (29.9%), and slightly higher still in the $25,000 to $35,000 range (32%). Then there is a sudden drop to 18.2% for those with an income of $35,000 to $55,000. From there, the percentages decrease further. The next table represents several reasons for not having health care and the percentages of those responses. The response given the most for not having health care coverage was because they could not afford it, with a percentage of approximately 32%. This information most likely represents the responses of those with the lowest income level. Other reasons include claims that the person is healthy enough to not need it, their employer not offering coverage, being self-employed and the cost being…

. Jim was a leader of a cult called the peoples temple. He was later proven of creating and running a group or what many would know as a cult for committing acts of violence, human rights abuse, sexual abuse, assault, and murder. Jim knew his way of getting around the law and was accused along with many of the members of his cult for many crimes like the ones I just mentioned but until the end of his reign he was never caught because he had politicians and other officials in the law some within his cult some not who all defended Jim whenever an accusation was aimed towards Jim. Knowing somewhere in his mind that he was doing things that were illegal and not accepted in the society that he was surrounded by Jim tried to do some things for the community and other organizations that would make him look good and take some of the heat and attention off of his group and focus it on something other than him. After things within the cult began to become more serious with the number of people belonging to it and the severity of the crimes they were committing were getting more frequent and more intense Jim was not able to cover up everything like he once was and people were beginning to grow suspicious of him so an American congressman Leo Ryan was sent in to investigate what was going on inside the peoples temple cult. Shortly after his arrival and after Jim gained word that Leo was investigating him and was gaining evidence that illegal activity was going on Jim jones and his people murdered the congressman. After the murder Jim knew the end was very near and that is when he called for his group to commit a revolutionary suicide. When they were having one of their meetings in the woods with over 900 people in attendance Jim created a drink that had cyanide poisoning in it and he later got most of his group members to consume it and a total of 914 people died including 200 of those people young infants or children. Shortly after Jim Jones committed suicide as well. Even…

In America, we not only have the problem of the non-insured but the under insured which causes just about as much problem as the underinsured. I do not believe all opponents of gay marriage are hateful. Some have just not been exposed to the right arguments, and so I will demonstrate here that each anti-gay marriage argument ultimately serves to oppress or imply the lesser status of the minority of which I am a part. In rallying against the introduction of equal marriage, religious campaigners have frequently stressed that their objections are not driven by homophobia, and have deployed numerous arguments to demonstrate this. To the untrained ear these arguments sound like they may have grounding in reason, but on closer inspection reveal themselves as homophobic.…

As a gay man, I found myself disappointed with this definition—that anyone with any sort of moral reservations about gay marriage is by definition anti-gay. If Raushenbush is right, then that means my parents are anti-gay, many of my religious friends (of all faiths) are anti-gay, the Pope is anti-gay, and—yes, we’ll go here—first-century, Jewish theologian Jesus is anti-gay. That’s despite the fact that while some religious people don’t support gay marriage in a sacramental sense, many of them are in favor of same-sex civil unions and full rights for the parties involved. To be sure, most gay people, myself included, won’t be satisfied until our loving, monogamous relationships are graced with the word “marriage.” But it’s important to recall that many religious individuals do support strong civil rights for the gay members of their communities.…
