Passion Project Research Paper
Recently, in my changes and choices class everyone in my class had to do a passion project. In the process of creating our passion projects we had to choose somewhere we wanted to volunteer at that involved something we were passionate about. Our passion projects were based off of our individual interests and passions. I chose to volunteer at Creative Learning Center, a locally known daycare and preschool in DeWitt. I chose to volunteer at Creative Learning Center because I'm very passionate about people in general, but especially children because they always put a smile on my face. During my experience volunteering I really enjoyed the time I spent there with the children and staff, some of the things I got to experience while volunteering

I am constantly reminding parents when they pick up and/or drop off their children that they are always more than welcome to come in and volunteer. When talking to parents about volunteering I let them know what a great impact it has on their children when they do take the time to come in and volunteer in their child’s classroom. It’s also great for the parents as well; they get the chance to see where their children spend most of their day and see the different activities they do and games they play with the teachers and staff. I think volunteering is a wonderful thing for parents to do, for not only their children, but for themselves and also the…

Volunteering for service hours changed my outlook on life. I worked with the Hydrocephalus Association in both eleventh and twelfth grade. The Hydrocephalus Association focuses on three things community, clarity, and cure. Hydrocephalus is a condition defined by an abnormal, excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the cavities of the brain. Some people with this condition can live a normal life being unnoticeable while other have difficulties. The association works on awareness to find a cure, clarity in helping families further understand the condition, and a community which will always be supportive. Service hours can sometimes be a hassle but once I started volunteering with that association it became fun because I was…

For some reason, I always go into things with a negative perspective, it’s somewhat of a defense mechanism. My experience as a UCSF Mission Bay Volunteer completely diminished this defense mechanism. At first, I questioned volunteering at UCSF Mission Bay Hospital. I questioned if delivering newspapers and hot beverages would have any effect on patients. I was also scared and sad by the thought of being in the hospital each week and seeing how sick and upset people are. The main reason I wanted to become a volunteer was to gain an experience in the medical field. Little did I know, I would gain a lot more from being a UCSF volunteer. I never really thought I would form relationships with patients, visitors, and staff.…

My biggest community activity is for Special Olympics of New Jersey. My family and I attend many of the events for SONJ including the Summer Games. I started volunteering by working and playing with the athletes. The area we staffed was where the athletes came to take a break and play with carnival-like games. The ages ranged from little kids to adults. It was fun putting smiles on their faces when you told them they won! It showed me we aren’t any different than them. They still like to do sports and have fun. They love to win prizes as do we. They just have disabilities that make them special. Over all volunteering for SONJ is a fantastic experience and in my opinion every boy and…

I cut the grass for some of my family because they asked me to cut it for them. I did it for my Aunt Gwen and my Grandma Hill. I enjoy my time with my Aunt and I was working together with my brother and my cousin and we had a great time over at my Aunt’s house. And at my Grandma's house we had a great time over there. I got to see my baby cousin and I haven’t seen here in a long time. I would do this again anytime because it was fun and if they ask me to. I picked this to do because they asked me to do it for them. This experience made me realize that family matters and to never let them go. It changed me making me a better person and making myself more available to family’s need. This helped someone else and it help the community…

As my son was finishing up his PreK program the teachers announced their retirement. I quickly knew this was my opportunity to live out my dream of being a preschool teacher. As part of my CDA requirements I needed to spend time in a classroom so I began volunteering in my daughters PreK class. I enjoyed being encouraged to be creative and playful in daily activities and have a substantial input in the classroom curriculum and schedule. I really liked using games, storytelling, and other activities to help children develop language and vocabulary, improve social skills, and learn basic science and math concepts. The highlights of my days volunteering was when I saw a child’s eyes light up when they learn/try something new. When they suddenly were able to make the letters in their name, or do something they weren’t previously able to do, I got as excited as they did. When the children were lined up waiting to come into class, and then run in and give me a hug, it warmed my…

The Internet is a growing space with infinite potential, yet we must question the truth and reliability of some things. Having the opportunity to make new, diverse friends around the community impacted me as a person. The people I met not only included the people I served, but also included the people I worked alongside of me in the food pantry. Since I volunteered at the same day and time every week, I was able to become familiar with many new people. In fact, many of these people were even able to connect to my life. One day I had a conversation with a man I volunteered with numerous times whose name was Steve.…

Last year, I went to Pinetree Preschool, where there is nothing but young children. That was an experience I enjoyed and found so valuable and opened my eyes to the potential and possibilities of children. This year, I chose the complete opposite of Pinetree and I volunteered at Primrose, a retirement home for people who suffer from alzheimer's or dementia. At Primrose, I saw a completely different side of human life. That may seem like an exaggeration but I tend not to spend much time with people much, much older than me, as they were at Primrose. I learned an incredible amount of patience and understanding and just life in general during my time volunteering at Primrose, that I could not had received anywhere else.…

I am an involved student who likes to volunteer and enjoys completing community service activities. A few months ago, I participated in a volunteer service that regarded helping the young and independent women out there that did not have a chance to have proper clothes to bring for a job interview etc. I had the ability of doing something for my community by lending a hand that would permit others to succeed, for me that was a huge satisfaction. Teachers at my school at times ask for my help in organizing students work because they know that I do it all with patience and will do a high quality job anywhere I am placed.…
