THE PASSION FOR FASHION

F ashion is a term to denote a popular style of clothes, hair, manner, habits, etc. at a particular time or place. Living at a time when it is widely believed that clothes define a man’s status, the trend for fashion is great among young people all over the world.
Fashion has spread in all the spheres of our life. Fashion designing, fashion parades and shows exhibit the latest dresses designed to fit in every occasion of life. Students generally try to copy fashions from films. Many students spend a lot of money and time drinking and smoking in the name of fashion. Parties and meetings have become a part of fashion in the modern period. However, fashion installs confidence in the mind of youngsters. It should be promoted to improve our life, not degrade it.
Man has changed himself from the ancient style of living. Science has gifted mankind with all the comforts of life. Similarly, there has been a change in fashion since the ancient period. Clothes define a man’s status. He always tries to present himself in the most attractive dress suitable for an occasion. One can make first impression on others by the way he is dressed.
Man is fashionable because of his natural desire to see well and to look good. Fashion not only popular style of clothes, hair etc. but it also includes etiquettes, manners and habits. Everybody wants to look beautiful and stylish. New and current style in clothes, manners etc. help people look more smart, attractive and stylish. Thousands of people are employed in fashion designing. Dress making firms engage fashion designers and beautiful models to make better the sales of their dresses. Fashion parades and shows are held to reveal the latest trend in costumes. Fashion and modelling have generated a great passion among young people for physical fitness. Some people feel happy wearing fashionable dresses. Young girls clothe and prepare themselves following their favourite heroines. Boys do the same following their favourite heroes. Some of them imitate the way of life, speech, manners and actions of film stars.
Fashion also reflects progress and growth of nation. It is a mark of social progress, prosperity and change for freshness and thrill. But fashion becomes harmful when turned into fascination. Then it means waste of time, energy and money. Most youngsters consider smoking as a fashion. One can find them in restaurants, enjoying a smoke. They do not feel ashamed of this act. Some students even go to the level of taking intoxicating drugs. They hardly realize the harmful effects of cigarettes and drugs on health.
Parents, teachers and elders should guide the students and young people from going off track. Most people consider drinking as a part of fashion. They consider drinking as a representation of modern society and high fashion. Drinking affects the health harmfully. One should not fall victim to this habit in the name of fashion.
Today fashion provides employment and business to millions of people throughout the world and there have been a huge investment in fashion industry. Expert fashion designers, technologists, tailors are busy day and night to provide to the needs of the fashion conscious people of the society. They do not only provide to the taste of the people but also create fashion and taste and thereby earn huge profit.
There is nothing to be ashamed of being fashionable. But excess of everything is bad and should be avoided. To live in style, dress well colourfully and smartly makes life lively, attractive, inviting and passionate. It is misconceived to link fashion with immorality. It is good to be fashionable but it is better to be simple and dignified. The maxim ‘simple living and high thanking’ holds true till today. We should not follow the alien culture, habits and manners blindly. Our own culture is so rich and unique that we can depend upon it. Fashion should be promoted to improve our life, not to disgrace it.

Starting from as early as the 13th century to the present day, fashion and its role in society has significantly evolved.
