Introduction

PARKnSHOP is the largest superstore in Hong Kong. Be a successful superstore, they are using a comprehensive supply chain system.

In 1989, there were no computers in any of PARKnSHOP stores, PARKnSHOP managed the stock manually in that time, everything used to take so long and caused lower efficiency.

After adopting Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system (which is called GS1 HK), all data are recorded in the system. The efficiency have been much more improved.

In the fast moving consumer goods industry, we will focus on Just In Time (JIT) for fresh food (especially vegetables) in PAKRnSHOP’s supply chain strategic.

Considering the safety of vegetables, PARKnSHOP use a comprehensive “Farm Check” System and set up the first Food Safety Centre to focus on fresh good safety standards.

Moreover, since vegetables is a short lift cycle and fast moving goods, it is most important to apply JIT for vegetables. When JIT is applied, it can be avoided the wastage and save cost.

PARKnSHOP is Hong Kong’s biggest food retailer, with a chain of over 340 stores in Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China.

In order to provide higher standards of health and hygiene, PARKnSHOP set up the first multi-temperature distribution and processing centre in Asia. And the first dedicated Food Safety Centre in Hong Kong.

To meet the needs of different customer segments, PARKnSHOP offers to (i) value for money, (ii) wide product choice, (iii) freshness & safety, and (iv) tailored stores.
