Parker's Case Study: Transitioning To The Classroom
There are four staff who are working with Parker: one class teacher and three teacher aides. The class teacher had taught Parker previously when he was a new entrant in a smaller primary school. The teachers described Parker as a “lovely child” as he engages well in his learning when he followed the class routine. However, the teachers said that it is always difficult for Parker to get to class in the first place. This occurs when Ana arrives at school and two teachers would come to get Parker out of the car using the i-pad or things he enjoys like a rugby ball. Parker would sometimes independently come out of the car or Ana would carry him out of the car. Parker would sit on the ground screaming and spitting on the teachers. The teachers said that they would stand away until he calms down as he stops spitting and covers his face. …show more content…

    Gary was more than proud of the fact that he gave his students a quiz everyday in his Latin class so that they would remember what they had learned the day before. Gary also wanted his students to apply what they were learning to the real world. While interviewing my grandfather he said, “In American Government, I never gave a student an A unless they did at least two ‘A projects’.” These “A projects” were simple things like interviewing a local politician or going to a town meeting.     | In this assignment I will be looking to demonstrate my knowledge of three different assessment criteria. Firstly I will be looking to explain the benefits of all staff consistently and fairly applying boundaries and rules for children and young people’s behaviour. I will then look to explain how the application of boundaries and rules for behaviour complies with the policies and procedures of the setting. I will then move onto to explaining the benefits of actively promoting positive aspects of behaviour as well as explaining the strategies for actively promoting positive aspects of behaviour. And finally I will look to give an explanation of the sorts of behaviour or discipline problems that should be referred to others and then I will look to give an understanding of the procedures for reporting problems. Firstly it is important for all staff to be consistent and fair when applying boundaries and rules for children and young people and outline any implications that inconsistent application of rules may have. It is also important to make sure that all children are treated equally, not only will that mean that the children trust you but it also means that the children will know exactly where the boundaries are which is very important when being in the classroom but also when outside the classroom as well. Making sure there isn’t any inconsistency as well is very important for both staff as students, this is likely to happen if children can see they aren’t being treated fairly which may lead to children trying to play staff off against each other and as a team may cause tension for them.
