Parents Should Attend Government Parenting Class
“Since philosophy is the art which teaches us how to live, and since children need to learn it as much as we do at other ages, why do we not instruct them in it?”(de Montaigne). Parenting class can be found all over the world but in countries like Australia, United State and United Kingdom, the government encourages parents to involve themselves in the government parenting classes. According to Kerby (n. d), large number of parenting programs which help to improve the skill of parent for different family members has been created by the federal government agencies since 1960s. Effective Parenting newsletter was published by Center for the Improvement of Child Caring (CICC) in 2004 for the purpose of providing information on the latest parenting skill and training activities for the parents. Although there are people who argue that parents know and can teach their children better, there are others who believe that parent should attend government parenting classes because parenting classes allow parents to share experiences, gain knowledge and affect children’s future in the society. First, children spend most of their time with their parents and parents take care of the life of their children with all the care and expenses they need. Thus, parents know their children better and they can find the proper ways to teach their children. As stated by Wilson (n. d), parents have the responsibility to improve intelligence of children without the need of wealth. Parents should give the interest, motivation and dedication to the children to bring up their inner talent. Besides, parents should give the opportunity to children to use their creativity to build up innovation in their life. However, how well parents can guide their children is limited to the knowledge and experience they have bringing up children. Therefore, they need professional to help or guide them more on standard parenting process and requirements. This is why they need to attend government parenting
