Price hike: unimaginable sufferings of people

David Jones, Dhaka, 25 August 2012:
Recently the prices of almost all essentials commodities especially rice, wheat, groceries, oil, vegetables etc. have gone up beyond the purchasing capacity of the common people. It is found in the local markets that rice sells 35-45Tk. per kg, flour 32-42, Soyabean oil 110 and onion TK 40-50 per kg. Prices of all other daily necessaries have been found to increase in the same way.

The soaring price hike has already made the life of people especially for the poor and fixed income people intolerably difficult. No one knows what their budget will be in the next month or week.

There are many reasons of price-hike. Short supply of commodities and money inflation are the main causes of price-hike. Smuggling and black-marketing are also responsible for price hike. It is learnt from the customers and retailers that the syndicates or the hoarders are deliberately creating this nuisance. In fact, they store essential commodities with a view to making huge profit. This causes a sharp decrease in the supply in the market which contributes to increase in prices. Also the police and concerned authority remain silent taking bribe.

If the situation continues, the people of low income group will not be able to buy their daily necessaries and undergo untold sufferings. As a result they have to consume less than they need. The poor will become poorer and the rich will become richer. Suffering of common people will remain stand still.
The concerned authority said that price hike is nothing new. The whole country is suffering from high prices of commodities due to increase of prices in the international market and money inflation at national level. Yet we are alert to check any tampering in the market. But most of the common people do not agree with them. “These are lame excuses. We just want to have the prices within our reach. We just want to survive” ---said Mr. Ali Ahmed, a retired

There were a few main causes for the sharp rises in gas prices during 1999 to mid 2008 time period. The sharp rise in gas can mainly be contributed to the increase in the price of oil. The high prices of oil are attributed to the cases of supply and demand. The supply of oil has not increased enough to meet the new demand. Demand for oil has increased over the years in a few countries while the supply stays constant causing the price increase. The price of gasoline is also heightened by the taxes, the cost to refine oil into gasoline, the transportation costs, and the profit of the gasoline dealer. The main causes for such a drastic change in prices are the change in demand from a few countries while the supply of gasoline has remained almost constant over the years span.…

Each individual develops feelings throughout their lifetime, whether it’s love for your family, or your soul mate. Sometimes feelings take time to develop. Family is always going to be family; Blood is thicker than water, no matter what happens they will always be there for you. Over the years, we learn to love our parents for a great number of reasons; they provide us with support in whatever we choose to do. They also provide your necessities to live, they teach you the basics of life while teaching you the much bigger picture in time. We don’t always understand why they ground us, or lecture us, but it is part of their responsibilities to give us a better understanding of life. At times we may feel hate towards them, but deep down inside our love will always be pure. Love is an indescribable feeling, it has so many meanings. Some say it is hard to find your prince charming, but I found mine. I wouldn’t trade anything in the world to be elsewhere. The feeling I get when I gaze into his eyes lights my soul from the burning passion we have for one another, striking my heart with great desire. Just the simple feeling of his hand on mine sends a rush through my body. Love is the passion you have for one another, to be there for one another, and to be each other’s best friend. The relationship you generate is the best feeling on the planet, the smile, the laughs, and the moments that touch your heart and take your breath away. Each day we’re stronger. We breathe the same air, and sometimes we may face difficult situations but we manage to work through it. Some may say that love is simple; some may say it is tough, but in the end it is all worth every bit of it. Love is a bond that we develop over time, and without each other we’re just two lost, separate fish in the…
