Panel Discussion
CLIP 1
Chan: Right then, Paulo, let’s get down to business. On the Agenda today for our public relations meeting are the research project, the launch of the website, the timeline for press releases, and the secretary of the year award. Are you quite happy with those points?
Paulo: Yeah, That’s fine. If you could go through them in order, that’d be great.

CLIP 2
Wendell: Okay, everybody, thanks for coming. Let’s keep this meeting fairly brief, really just a couple of things on the agenda. First of all, as you can see, the news on the book re-launch; and secondly, the office move; and finally, we’ll have a little bit of time for any other business
Christian: First of all, the book re-launch. I just wanted to remind everybody that we will be re-launching the fairy-tales range with new modern covers, and that is going to happen at the beginning of next month. It’s important that we get this right and there have been quite a few.
Salicob: Actually, Christian, can I just ask you – sorry to hold the meeting up – can I ask you about those dates, because I thought that this was going to be published the month after next, and I understand that everybody has got their dates, but I do feel quite strongly that we’re bringing this out too soon.
Chan: Well, any other thoughts before I comment on that?
Mana: I don’t think we’ve got any choice at all about it. If the radio programmes are going out at the beginning of next month, we’ve got to launch the book at the same time if we’re going to have any sales impact.
Chan: The office move, as you know, the plans have been up by the main exit for a week now. I just wanted to see what king of feedback you’ve got.
Ian (Entoma) : Yeah, Renz, but I really strongly disagree with the new floor plan. I think it’s divisive to separate the secretaries and the assistants out from the editors and the managers. I’d much happier if we could be located in teams.
Mana: Actually, I think Christian is Right. I’ve been chatting to

I found your Discussion Board Forum 4 post quite interesting. I didn’t agree with the post in its entirety. Opening a new business is hard work. Anyone looking into opening a business should thoroughly do their research. Betty has done some great ground work by researching a few franchises. The franchise concept is a great option for someone new to the business world. The franchisor usually continues to support the operation of the franchisee 's business by providing advertising, accounting, training, related services, and in many instances, products needed by the franchisee. (Satterlee, 2009). Betty would not be in business by herself. She would have professional advice throughout this journey. If Betty chose a sole proprietorship she would solely be responsible. Franchising means using a tried and tested formula to benefit from the experience and support of the franchisor (Schizas, 2013).I don’t agree that she shouldn’t employ Emma solely because of beliefs. Emma would be an employee not a partner. Emma is fully aware that Betty wants to run a Christian coffee shop. I would not choose Alice to partner, because of her husband’s firm beliefs that his wife should be at home. I would not want to start any family problems. However, I do believe that Betty’s husband could be her business partner. The financial contributions will assist greatly with Betty’s goals. I agree that Betty needs to consider other names for her business, because “The Gathering Place” was taken”. I think it is a great idea for her to name her business something that lets customers now that it is a coffee shop. Betty should look at the pros and cons of all the business types and go from there. Regardless of what decision Betty makes she needs to look to God for guidance to make the right decisions.…

In light of the aforementioned we as executives of the company need to act quickly to remedy the situation. I will therefore contact the staff at Roanoke in order to deal with the discontent that exists among them and to ensure that the branch managers are compensating workers for overtime. I am requesting that Summer Breeze contact the creative team at the Roanoke branch to investigate the reasons for the rejection of creative work by the new management team and why there isn’t a consultative environment in that department. I also need Sunny Ray to analyze the new clients the branch has recently acquired and determine their feasibility and viability. I need Grace Kennedy to develop a method that will provide some kind of solution to staff working longer hours than they need to.…

You are the coordinator of staff development for Imperial Oil. It has been recently announced that Imperial Oil is moving its headquarters from Toronto to Calgary. The news has been greeted positively by employees, but a few are unhappy while others already working in the Calgary office are unsure how well the amalgamation of the two offices with their different cultures will go. Recognizing the feeling of uncertainty, you decide to hold a series of corporate team-building retreats shortly after the headquarters move to Calgary. The retreat will be led by the Great Canadian Adventure Company. Employees will meet in downtown Calgary at 8:00 a.m. and buses will pick them up and take them to the Sylvan Lake area. There, they will spend the day on team-building like map-reading exercises that will require employee teams to find their way through a wooded area to a “home base” where lunch will be served. The group will return to downtown to Calgary by 7:00 p.m.…
