In this assignment I will be explaining how one piece of legislation, one relevant policy and one relevant code of practice could be applied to planning support.
Disability Discrimination Act 1995; extended 2005- This legislation aims to end discrimination which disabled people may get. It gives disabled people rights in areas such as employment, housing, transport and in their education. This legislation requires people to promote equality of opportunity for people who have any disabilities. It also allows the government to set minimum standards so that people who have disabilities can use public transport more easily for example all buses now have ramps which people in wheelchairs use. It is unlawful in this legislation for an employer to treat someone with disabilities less favourably then someone because of their disability. This could help Amina as because she needs help when walking she often uses a wheelchair, this could help Amina as she could use public transport easily without having to ask someone to help. She could have a better chance at a job as people cannot treat her any differently because of her disabilities. This could make her feel that she now has a better chance in life as she has more opportunities and no one can make her feel isolated or left out.
Bullying and Harassment Policy- this is behaviour that could make someone feel intimidated or offended. Examples of bullying harassing behaviour can include; spreading malicious rumours, unfair treatment, constantly picking on someone, regularly undermining a worker. Bullying or harassment can happen; face to face, in an email, by phone or by a letter. Bullying isn’t against the law however harassment is, this is when unwanted behaviour is related to one of the following; age, sex, disability, gender, marriage, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or beliefs and sexual orientation. This could help Amina as she could feel that if she ever got harassed or bullied by anyone she could report it

The disabilities discrimination act was made for individuals who suffer from a disability this right was made so even they can have the same rights as everyone else. They don’t want any individual with a disability to feel as if though they are not missing out on anything just because they are not able to do such things. The act speaks up for people who are not confident enough to get across all their rights they are entitled to. The Act also still applies. Previously, it made it unlawful to discriminate against people in respect of their disabilities in relation to employment, the provision of goods and services, education and transport. The individuals this act helps are disabled individuals who suffer from illnesses like; down syndrome, dyslexia and mental health problems. It also refers back to individuals who may be involved in an accident and now suffering from a broken leg, arm etc, who are then on wheelchairs this makes them unable to do things others can do. The act also helps individuals from not getting treated any different just because they may not be able to do things others can without disability this act is here to stop discrimination like this. Sometimes there may be no reasonable adjustment, and the outcome is that a disabled person is treated less favorably. For example, if a person was not able to understand the implications of entering into a mortgage or loan agreement, and they did not have anyone authorized to act for them, it would not make sense to require a bank or building society to enter into that agreement.
