The Hazards of Moviegoing
I. Introduction
A. Hook: I am a movie fanatic. When friends want to know what picture won the Oscar in 1980 or who played the police chief in Jaws, they ask me.
B. Link: My friends, though, have stopped asking me if I want to go out to the movies.
C. Thesis Statement: The problems in getting to the theater, the theater itself, and the behavior of some patrons are all reasons why I often wait for a movie to show up on TV.
II. Body
A. Paragraph 1
1. Topic Sentence: First of all, just getting to the theater presents difficulties.
2. Supporting Details: bad weather thirty-minute drive congested highway parking space availability long lines ticket availability seat availability people who sneak into the line
B. Paragraph 2
1. Topic Sentence: Once you have made it to the box office and gotten your tickets, you are confronted with the problems of the theater itself.
2. Supporting Details: musty smell of carpets damaged seats tolerating the movie noises from adjacent theaters floors littered with leftovers and spilled drinks
C. Paragraph 3
1. Topic Sentence: Some of the patrons are even more of a problem than the theater itself.
2. Supporting Details: little kids racing up and down the aisles teenagers making noises while watching the movie adults commenting about the movie littering on the floor coughing and burping squirming endlessly in their seats going to the rest rooms or concession stands elbowing people by the armrests
III. Conclusion
A. Gist: I was tired of the problems involved in getting to the movies and dealing with the theater itself and some of the patrons.
B. Clincher: After arriving home from the movies one night, I decided that I was not going to be a moviegoer anymore.
