PHI 2394 Proposal 1) Choice of Topic: Prenatal Testing Thesis: “The importance of the impact prenatal testing has on society due to its development through scientific thought and medical technology” 2) Relation to Personal Backgrounds: All members of the group have been influenced and impacted by people we personally know who are diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Trisomy 18, open neural tube defects (ie. spina bifida) or other exceptionalities. At this point in time, prenatal testing can be seen as an extensive technological artefact as it is not necessarily accepted to be a mandatory step to take during pregnancy. Some may see this technology as very beneficial and a logical step to add to the “quasi-evolutionary process” of mankind [7].
